Aqueon Betta packages: size labels and evidence boundaries

Aqueon lists two distinct small-habitat packages: Betta Filter with Natural Plant, SKU 100542354 / UPC 015905001847, and Betta Filter with Volcano, SKU 100542356 / UPC 015905001861. The Natural Plant product page supplies family details; the ordinary Volcano route currently redirects to that Natural Plant page, so the Volcano identity and package label are cross-checked against the separate catalog row and exact SKU-specific package art rather than inferred from the redirect. Both package images print 0.5–3 gallons; that is a maker equipment label, not a fish-load rating. The questionnaire starts at 1 gallon, so 0.5 is a package boundary but not an available quiz input.

The family page describes air operation, a required air pump sold separately, carbon-and-sponge cartridge replacement about monthly and a 90-day warranty. It does not publish a comparable basket-litre amount, GPH value or high-waste suitability for these packages. The exact package style is the visible distinction; the inspected sources do not establish a Volcano performance tier. Both are internal units on a suction-cup base and do not need below-tank canister space, but they do take space inside the aquarium and still need an air source.

Choosing “Internal filter” returns 40 current reviewed arrangements, including the Aqueon SmartClean Shrimp 15G SKU 100547610 as well as both Betta Filter packages; confirm in-tank clearance and remember that either Betta package needs a separate air pump. The Shrimp model's catalog and exact package label cover 5–15 US gallons, but its package does not establish a high-waste rating or guarantee protection for every shrimp or installation. The Natural Plant and Volcano packages are current internal-style candidates rather than cabinet canisters; the maker does not document them as self-powered. Compare the SmartClean Shrimp 15G, Natural Plant and Volcano reviews, then use the internal-only finder answer without silently adding a size or load condition.

With below-tank space available, the full current library contains 102 matches, including the internal SmartClean Shrimp 15G and both Betta packages because none requires a below-tank canister position. Available cabinet space does not prove in-tank fit or supply the Betta packages' separate required air pump. Check the exact Shrimp 15G, Natural Plant or Volcano assessment, and view the same available-space answer.

Without suitable below-tank space, 83 current matches remain, including the SmartClean Shrimp 15G and both Betta packages as internal filters. The Shrimp unit mounts inside a compatible aquarium, avoiding a canister cabinet, but still needs in-tank room and the correct framed clip or frameless suction-cup fit; the Betta packages also need a separately purchased air pump. Review SmartClean Shrimp 15G, Natural Plant or Volcano, then use the same no-below-tank-space answer.

With “No, compare current-generation models only,” the 102-current-model set includes the catalog-confirmed Aqueon SmartClean Shrimp 15G SKU 100547610 and both exact Betta packages. The Shrimp row is distinct from SmartClean Internal Medium SKU 100549863 even though their 2026 catalog UPCs collide; selecting current-only does not confirm gallon fit, an identical UPC-based configuration, or stocking suitability. Compare Shrimp 15G with Natural Plant SKU 100542354 and Volcano SKU 100542356, and keep the current-only finder choice.

With earlier generations included, the matcher returns 114 reviewed configurations, adding 12 earlier items to the 102 current configurations; five of those are distinct Aqueon LED PRO HOB sizes 10/20/30/50/75. The current SmartClean Shrimp and Betta packages remain present; the generation switch does not create an older Shrimp variant or change their labels and package-specific limitations. The LED PRO items (SKU 100106080, 100106081, 100106082, 100106117 and 100106079) are older indicator packages, not the current PRO QuietFlow NoDrip models; four size pairs reuse UPCs, so verify item number and box rather than barcode alone. The legacy product route redirects to the current PRO page, and all five older tank labels give only an upper bound, so none earns a numeric-volume match. Compare LED PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 alongside SmartClean Shrimp 15G, Betta Natural Plant and Betta Volcano; view the exact earlier-inclusive answer.

With earlier models included, a 20-gallon HOB/no-cabinet screen returns 11 products, and the same screen at 20.5 gallons returns eight; neither answer includes any LED PRO size because all five have an upper-only tank label with no documented lower endpoint. At 20 gallons with earlier=yes, 21 reviewed configurations match; SmartClean HOB 10–20 and Fluval AC20 are among them, while no LED PRO size passes its unknown lower bound. At 20.5 gallons with earlier=yes, 18 configurations match; SmartClean HOB 20–30 and Fluval AC30 remain, but the 10–20 HOB and AC20 no longer meet their documented ranges, and all five LED PRO sizes remain excluded. Compare the exact size-10, -20, -30, -50 and -75 packages, whose printed ceilings are 20, 30, 45, 50 and 90 gallons. The “up to” number alone cannot establish that a particular numeric request is within a full maker-stated interval. At 20 gallons, the exact HOB/no-cabinet/earlier=yes matcher returns 11 options; none is an Aqueon QuietFlow LED PRO because its minimum capacity is undocumented. At 20.5 gallons, the same HOB/no-cabinet/earlier=yes matcher returns eight, again excluding all five LED PRO models; the smaller AC20 and SmartClean HOB 10–20 no longer meet their documented intervals. Review the SmartClean HOB 10–20, 20–30, AC20 and AC30 interval evidence alongside the LED PRO 10 upper-only limitation. Keep earlier=yes fixed when comparing 20 gallons with 20.5 gallons; keep HOB and unavailable under-tank space fixed when comparing the HOB subset at 20 gallons with that same HOB subset at 20.5 gallons. These are documented equipment-label results, not stocking or water-quality recommendations.

Requiring manufacturer high-waste guidance still returns no current match: neither Betta package's 0.5–3-gallon label establishes suitability for an unusually stocked or high-waste tank. A gallon range, air bubbles or replaceable cartridge is not a waste-load rating; the separate SmartClean Shrimp 15G's 5–15-gallon label likewise does not establish high-waste capacity. This is an evidence gap in the reviewed library, not a universal claim that no filter exists. Check the same fail-closed high-waste option.

Both Aqueon Betta package SKUs have distinct exact 0.5–3 US-gallon labels; 3 gallons is an inclusive supported boundary, while the quiz begins at 1 gallon and neither label certifies a stocking load. The 0.5-gallon package lower endpoint is below the form's minimum input; the 3-gallon upper endpoint and the next 3.5-gallon step are both expressible. Read the exact Natural Plant and Volcano package assessments. A volume-only 3-gallon search is available at this finder query, but it is an equipment-label screen, not a bioload recommendation.

With earlier generations enabled, both current Betta packages match the exact 1.5-, 2-, 2.5- and 3-gallon inputs. Each value falls within the distinct package label, but the result remains a size-label screen rather than a stocking recommendation. Compare Natural Plant with Volcano, and keep “earlier=yes” fixed at 1.5 gallons, 2 gallons, 2.5 gallons or 3 gallons.

At 1 US gallon with earlier generations enabled, the only volume-screen matches are the two Aqueon Betta packages. Both exact package labels include 1 gallon, but the maker size label does not certify livestock load or aquarium-water quality. Compare Natural Plant and Volcano; run the same volume-and-generation search.

At exactly 3 US gallons with earlier generations included, both Betta packages remain at their shared inclusive upper endpoint; the complete result has five models. The other matches are two distinct Aquael PAT Mini packages and Turbo Mini Bio. Compare Natural Plant, Volcano, PAT Mini, PAT Mini with extra sponge and Turbo Mini Bio; see that exact five-model finder result.

At 3.5 US gallons with earlier generations enabled, both Betta packages fall outside their 3-gallon maximum; three Aquael models remain. The remaining matches are PAT Mini, PAT Mini with extra sponge and Turbo Mini Bio; the package maximum does not round up to the next half-gallon. Read PAT Mini, PAT Mini with extra sponge and Turbo Mini Bio, then use the same 3.5-gallon and earlier-inclusive condition.

Combining a 3-gallon volume with “Internal filter” returns five models, including both Betta packages at their labeled upper boundary. The complete set also contains the two PAT Mini variants and Turbo Mini Bio; none of these gallon labels is a fish-load guarantee. Compare Natural Plant and Volcano, then test volume plus arrangement together.

With internal style, a 0.1-L basket minimum and current-only models, six products match, while the two Betta packages and the SmartClean Shrimp 15G are excluded because no comparable manufacturer basket-litre value is published. The Aqueon cartridges do not substitute for measured basket capacity; the positive set includes Aquael Neo Bio 1000, Turbo Mini Bio and four TURBO FILTER sizes. Compare the Turbo Mini Bio with Aqueon's Shrimp 15G, Natural Plant and Volcano evidence, and keep the same internal, media and generation requirements.

At 3 US gallons with internal style, no below-tank space, current-only models and a 0.1-L minimum media basket, only Aquael Turbo Mini Bio matches; both Betta packages fail the essential media field because their comparable basket volume is unknown. A cartridge is not an author-published basket measurement. Read the Turbo Mini Bio assessment and the two Betta package reviews, Natural Plant and Volcano; test the same volume-plus-media conditions.

At 3 gallons with internal style and essential manufacturer high-waste validation, the current reviewed library returns no match; the Betta packages' volume labels do not establish the required load evidence. The empty result is specific to this library's documented facts, not a universal claim about aquarium-filter capability. see the exact high-waste, volume and style query.

At 10 US gallons, Aqueon's 5–15-gallon SmartClean Shrimp size label does not meet an additional essential request for documented manufacturer high-waste validation; the internal-filter query returns no verified match. The exact item has a source-backed tank interval but its high-bioload field remains unknown. That missing claim does not mean the product cannot be used in any higher-load aquarium; it means this assessment will not infer biological-load capacity from the volume label, adjustable flow or shrimp intake screen. Read the SKU 100547610 evidence and run the same 10-gallon, internal and high-waste conditions.

At 3 US gallons, internal style and unavailable below-tank space still return five current matches, including both Betta packages. These filters use in-tank mounting and no canister cabinet, but each still needs an aquarium fit check and a separate air pump. Compare Natural Plant and Volcano and use the same volume, internal, no-space and current-only conditions.

At 10 US gallons with internal style, no below-tank space and current-only models, the Shrimp 15G matches its documented 5–15 range and in-tank plans; six reviewed models remain. This combines a maker-listed volume with the exact model's internal mounting, not a shrimp-safety guarantee, high-waste rating, measured GPH or proof of aquarium clearance. Check the framed clip or frameless suction-cup arrangement and read the SKU 100547610 assessment; run the same 10-gallon, internal, no-space and current-only screen.

The finder narrows this library using evidence tied to named US configurations. It cannot diagnose aquarium health, size a filter for a stocking plan, or guarantee that a seller's box matches the reviewed version. The library covers current models from Aqueon, Aquael, Fluval and OASE, including distinct internal, hang-on and external arrangements, size variants, heater-inclusive packages and reference-only entries; twelve earlier configurations are separately identified when the generation option is enabled. It is a bounded model library rather than a marketwide census, and an empty answer means the reviewed sources did not establish a match—not that no brand makes one.

Tank volume: check both ends of the printed range

The separate SmartClean Shrimp 15G SKU 100547610 has a documented 5–15 US-gallon interval; the standard XS is upper-only “up to 5” for matching, Small is 5–15 and Medium is 15–30, with an inclusive Small/Shrimp/Medium overlap at exactly 15 gallons. Aqueon's 2026 catalog lists the Shrimp SKU in its 5–15 row and its exact package repeats the label; this is not the standard Medium row, which shares a UPC but has different SKU, range and cartridge. The XS page/package also displays 0–5G, but that is not treated as a practical lower endpoint and XS never matches an entered volume. At 4.5 gallons the Shrimp, Small and Medium intervals do not reach the value; the Shrimp and Small enter at 5, remain eligible at 14.5 and overlap Medium at 15; at 15.5 only Medium remains, through 30 but not 30.5. Compare the individually researched Extra Small, Small, Medium and Shrimp 15G variants. With earlier generations fixed at “yes,” test 4.5, 5, 14.5, 15, 15.5, 30 and 30.5 gallons; these are maker-label comparisons, not GPH measurements, stocking advice or proof of physical fit.

With earlier generations included and no other filter requirement, none of these PRO upper-only ceilings certifies an entered tank-volume fit because each lower endpoint remains unknown. Compare the distinct PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 reviews with interval-supported SmartClean 10–20, 20–30, 30–50, 50–90 and Fluval AC110 examples. With the same earlier-inclusive setting, test 20/20.5, 30/30.5, 45/45.5, 55/55.5 and 90/90.5 gallons; these screens do not affirm an unreported lower boundary.

Aqueon's four current SmartClean HOB sizes have distinct inclusive aquarium labels: 10–20 gallons (SKU 100551030), 20–30 (100551031), 30–50 (100551033), and 50–90 (100551034). Their numeric intervals overlap at 20, 30, and 50 gallons; a shared endpoint can correctly show two sizes, while the next half-gallon step outside an endpoint does not. This screen cannot infer GPH, media litres, stocking suitability or a high-waste rating from those labels. Compare the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50, and 50–90 reviews. Test the same earlier-inclusive condition at 9.5/10, 19.5/20/20.5, 29.5/30/30.5, 49.5/50/50.5, and 89.5/90/90.5 gallons.

The exact current PRO packages print only upper ceilings—Size 10 up to 20, Size 20 up to 30, Size 30 up to 45, Size 50 up to 55, and Size 75 up to 90 US gallons—with no lower endpoint, so none is certified by entering one of these numbers. At each printed ceiling the PRO model is still absent from the numeric matcher because the required minimum is unknown; one half-gallon above is also outside the package ceiling. This is a fail-closed evidence rule, not proof the filter cannot physically operate at a particular volume. Read the distinct PRO 10, PRO 20, PRO 30, PRO 50 and PRO 75 assessments; compare supported interval alternatives SmartClean 10–20, 20–30, 30–50, 50–90 and AC110. For the same HOB/no-cabinet/current-only conditions, compare 20/20.5, 30/30.5, 45/45.5, 55/55.5 and 90/90.5 gallons; none of these queries confirms a PRO model by volume.

The 50–90 SmartClean size includes the 90-gallon upper endpoint and falls outside its labeled interval at 90.5 gallons. Compare its exact 50–90 review and the same earlier-inclusive boundary checks at 90 gallons and 90.5 gallons.

Aqueon's QuietFlow Canister 300 is screened at the conservative overlap of 55–75 US gallons: its 2025 catalog prints 55–100, while the current family page and instructions say up to 75. The 55- and 75-gallon endpoints are included; 54.5 is below and 75.5 is above this evidence screen. The separate QuietFlow 400 uses the catalog's 100–150-gallon interval, contained within the family-page/instructions' up-to-155 ceiling: 99.5 is below, 100 and 150 are included, and 150.5 is above. Neither overlap nor catalog interval is a stocking rating. QuietFlow 200 is an upper-only “up to 55” case with no lower endpoint, so it is not certified by the exact-volume matcher even at 55 gallons. Read the distinct 200, 300 and 400 assessments; all three list gravity-fed below-tank installation, but only the latter two have complete numeric intervals in this conservative screen. Compare 54.5/55, 75/75.5 and 99.5/100/150/150.5 gallons with the same earlier-inclusive setting. Aqueon describes the printed capacities as fit labels; its GPH and basket counts do not establish animal load or basket litres.

Both current PAT Mini configurations have a printed closed interval of 2–30 US gallons: at 1.5 gallons, items 113835 and 120623 are below the lower bound. At 2.0 gallons, both PAT Mini items 113835 and 120623 enter the maker-labeled interval; a range match is not stocking advice. At the upper edge both remain within range at 30 gallons, but both are outside it at 30.5. At 30.5 gallons, PAT Mini items 113835 and 120623 are beyond their printed maximum. At 1.5 US gallons, no reviewed model has a complete documented interval containing that input. Both PAT Mini rows begin at 2 gallons. The source row separately pairs 2–30 US gal with 10–120 L; these paired units are preserved rather than silently reconciled. The current US table lists extra-sponge item 113835 at 3 W / 105 US gal/h and standard item 120623 at 4.5 W / 119 US gal/h, each paired with 400 L/h. Those are maker-listed values, not measured installed circulation or stocking advice. With “include earlier generations” fixed, compare 1.5 gallons against 2.0 gallons and 30 gallons against 30.5 gallons.

Neo Bio 1000 is an upper-only numeric case: Aquael labels it “up to 250 L / 66.04 US gal” but gives no lower endpoint, so it cannot match any entered gallon value; even at 66.0 gallons it remains unverified, while the next 66.5-gallon step exceeds its printed maximum. This does not mean the filter cannot physically run at 66 gallons; the authored numeric screen simply requires both endpoints. The Neo Bio 1000 review also notes its 0.2-L basket and unresolved US electrical label. Compare the same internal/no-below-tank/current-only conditions at 66.0 gallons and 66.5 gallons; neither result certifies Neo Bio 1000 by volume. The numeric analysis also holds “include earlier generations” fixed at 66 and 66.5 gallons; the two results are unchanged at these inputs, and Neo Bio 1000 is still absent because its lower endpoint is unknown.

The Turbo Mini Bio and Turbo Mini are separate numeric cases: Bio's manufacturer range is 10–80 L (about 2.64–21.1 US gallons), while standard Mini publishes only an exclusive under-21.13-gallon ceiling and no lower endpoint. Bio is below its converted lower bound at 2.5 gallons and enters at 3.0; at 21.0 it remains within its printed interval while 21.5 is beyond it. The two PAT Mini configurations independently match both 2.5 and 3.0 gallons because their current US table lists complete 2–30-US-gallon intervals; they also remain within range at 21.0 and 21.5. This is numeric evidence, not stocking or waste-load guidance. Read the Bio review, standard Mini review, extra-sponge PAT Mini item 113835 review and standard item 120623 review; compare the same current/internal setup at 2.5, 3.0, 21.0 and 21.5 gallons. The numeric coverage witnesses keep other answers fixed at “include earlier generations” for 2.5/3.0 and 21.0/21.5 gallons.

Aquael's current US TURBO FILTER table lists 1000 at 30–65 US gallons, 1500 at 65–90 and 2000 at 90–130; the 500 row is only “under 30” and has no lower endpoint, so it is not volume-certified at any entered number. The 1000, 1500 and 2000 endpoints are inclusive in the printed two-ended rows. Aquael TURBO 1000 first enters the current internal-only volume set at 30 US gallons; at 29.5, PAT Mini items 113835 and 120623 plus Fluval U2/U3 remain. Compare the 500 item 115066, 1000 item 115067, 1500 item 115068 and 2000 item 115069 reviews; their 130/265/400/530 US GPH figures are maker-listed output/efficiency values, not installed circulation or a livestock-load rating. The 1000 is still within range at 65, while the 1500 enters at that same shared endpoint; at 65.5 only the 1500 remains. At 90 both 1500 and 2000 are included, at 90.5 only 2000 remains, and 2000 reaches its printed ceiling at 130 but not 130.5. At 130.5 US gallons with the same internal-only/current-generation choices, no reviewed internal filter has a complete documented interval that reaches this value: TURBO 2000 stops at 130. Test the same internal-only, current-model conditions at 29.5/30, 65/65.5, 90/90.5 and 130/130.5 gallons. The family table assigns current US items 115066–115069, while linked manual and gallery filenames use 109401/109403/109404/109405; Aquael does not state an item-code crosswalk, so confirm the exact seller item and electrical nameplate.

At 49.5 US gallons the archived HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 is below its 50-US-gallon lower endpoint; at 50 gallons it enters the printed interval. The archived US page and leaflet label the non-BT model 50–400 gallons, while the later BT model is separately listed at 52.83–396.25 gallons. Compare the earlier item 131381 and current BT item 132256; the adjacent quiz inputs are 49.5 gallons, earlier models included and 50 gallons with the same generation setting. At 52.5 gallons, earlier item 131381 is in range but current BT item 132256 is below its printed 52.83-gallon lower boundary; at 53 gallons both are in range. Test the same two-edition comparison at 52.5 gallons and 53 gallons. At 396 gallons both HYPERMAX editions remain within their printed intervals; at 396.5 gallons, the BT's 396.25-gallon ceiling excludes item 132256 while earlier item 131381 still reaches 400. Follow that boundary with 396 gallons and 396.5 gallons. At 400 US gallons the archived HYPERMAX 4500 remains at its printed upper endpoint; at 400.5 it falls outside the reviewed library's HYPERMAX intervals. Compare 400 gallons with 400.5 gallons; the empty result is a finite-library boundary, not proof that no physical filter can work there.

The earlier Aquael MULTIKANI 800 item 115089 enters the maker-listed 5–80-US-gallon interval at 5 gallons, remains within it at 80, and is outside the printed range at 4.5 and 80.5 gallons. The MULTIKANI 800 itself does not meet the entered volume at 4.5; Turbo Mini Bio appears in that broader numeric result from its separate maker-listed 10-L lower aquarium limit, transparently converted to about 2.64 US gallons. The 40-gallon setup has an important configuration caveat: about 40 US gallons is roughly 151 L, in Aquael's manual band calling for four 1-L baskets, while the archived product row includes only one; verify three added baskets before treating the system range as a workable setup. Compare the separate MULTIKANI 800 review and Turbo Mini Bio assessment at 4.5 gallons, 5 gallons, 80 gallons and 80.5 gallons, keeping the earlier-products setting the same. These nominal endpoints are screening labels, not a fish-load rating or proof that an old unit and all required baskets are currently available.

Current MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128 does not enter volume-specific results in this library: the US page/leaflet interval conflicts with the linked manual's opening ranges and its later basket table. The standard set has one 1.3-L chamber; the 100–400/200–500/300–600/400–700 L introductory claims and the manual's later 20–100/100–200/200–300/300–400 L table cannot establish its exact tank-volume interval. Review current item 135128 and test a 40-gallon current-only lookup; the excluded numeric result reflects unresolved primary-source ranges, not proof of physical incompatibility.

OASE's exact US specifications for EcoFlow 60, 100, 150 and 200 provide the upper boundaries assessed below; each individual page also contains generic family copy that must not be confused with its model table.

At 15 US gallons with earlier models included, fourteen complete-interval matches remain, including the overlapping FAN MINI PLUS and FAN 1 PLUS at their shared inclusive endpoint; the BT ULTRAMAX's 26.4-gallon lower limit does not add it here. Compare the MULTIKANI 800, U2, VERSAMAX 1, VERSAMAX 2 and both PAT Mini reviews (standard item 120623 and extra-sponge item 113835), then test 15 gallons with earlier models included. At 26.0 US gallons, sixteen complete-interval matches include VERSAMAX 2/3, ULTRAMAX 1000, MULTIKANI 800, FAN 2 PLUS and both PAT Mini SKUs; Aquael ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 remains just below its 26.4-gallon lower label. At the next half-gallon step, 26.5, the BT enters and the result becomes seventeen; FAN 2 PLUS remains within its 25–35-gallon interval. Compare VERSAMAX 2, VERSAMAX 3, ULTRAMAX 1000, ULTRAMAX BT item 133420, MULTIKANI 800 and the separate 113835/120623 assessments, then use the paired 26-gallon and 26.5-gallon finder conditions. At 40 US gallons, fifteen complete-interval matches include VERSAMAX 2/3, the BT as well as ULTRAMAX 1000, U3, U4, MULTIKANI 800 and FAN 3 PLUS. Check those exact reviews before testing 40 gallons with earlier models included. At 50 US gallons, sixteen interval-confirmed matches include VERSAMAX 2/3, ULTRAMAX BT, ULTRAMAX 1000, MULTIKANI 800 and FAN 3 PLUS. The exact EcoFlow 200 ceiling is still not a confirmed interval; test 50 US gallons with earlier models included.

The 10-US-gallon lower bound adds Fluval 107, AC30 and earlier AquaClear 30 at 10 gallons but not 9.5; VERSAMAX 1 already fits at 9.5, while VERSAMAX 2 joins at 10. The range screen uses approximate water volume in US gallons, compares it with the manufacturer-listed lower and upper values, and includes exact endpoints. Use the water actually in the aquarium rather than its outside glass dimensions. A printed aquarium range is a first-fit screen, not a fish-count, waste-load or care recommendation.

Three current US Aquael VERSAMAX rows add closed, size-specific ranges: VERSAMAX 1 is 5–25 US gallons, VERSAMAX 2 is 10–50, and VERSAMAX 3 is 20–80; the endpoints match, and the next half-gallon step outside each endpoint does not. At 4.5/5 gallons, only the VERSAMAX 1 lower boundary changes; at 9.5/10, VERSAMAX 1 already fits and VERSAMAX 2 joins. At 19.5/20, VERSAMAX 3 enters; at 24.5/25 the VERSAMAX 1 interval reaches its upper edge, then ends at 25.5. VERSAMAX 2 reaches its upper edge at 50 and is excluded at 50.5, while VERSAMAX 3 remains in range through 80 and is outside at 80.5. Review the exact VERSAMAX 1, VERSAMAX 2 and VERSAMAX 3 rows; the intervals do not rate waste load. Follow the same earlier-inclusive condition across each boundary: 4.5/5, 9.5/10, 19.5/20, 24.5/25/25.5, 49.5/50/50.5, and 79.5/80/80.5 gallons. The fourth current model, VERSAMAX MINI, is a confirmed current HOB unit but not an exact-volume match at 10 gallons or any other volume: its US row supplies a maximum, while the lower endpoint is unresolved across conflicting table/introduction/manual evidence. The source-specific maximum remains a meaningful upper-only boundary, not permission to invent a minimum.

FiltoSmart 60 has a different numeric edge: OASE lists a 20-US-gallon maximum but no minimum. That ceiling does not create a complete interval or confirm a 20-gallon numeric match; at 20 gallons, the exact US-model review explains the missing lower endpoint. For the concrete combination of 20 gallons, an external canister and no below-tank location, test all three answers together; a model can satisfy placement yet still fail a missing numeric-bound screen.

The standard FiltoSmart 100 US (SKU 55159) likewise has no lower endpoint: its exact page says up to 100 L and separately gives a 30-US-gallon feature ceiling. Those are upper-only labels, so the 100 is excluded from numeric tank-volume matches even at 30 gallons. The separate heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 100 US (SKU 55163) also prints 100 L and 30 US gallons as maxima but publishes no lower endpoint; its included 100 W heater does not supply one. The heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 200 US (SKU 55164) has separate 55-US-gallon and 200-litre maximum labels but no lower endpoint, so its ceiling cannot certify an exact 30-gallon interval either. Test 30 US gallons with earlier models included; the strict result does not treat these upper-only configurations as complete operating intervals.

Standard FiltoSmart 300 US SKU 55162 adds separate upper-only labels of 80 US gallons and 300 L, but no lower endpoint. Its 1000 L/h maximum flow and 6.4 L total filter volume do not fill that missing interval; even at 80 gallons, the exact-volume matcher does not certify the model.

The distinct heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 300 US SKU 55165 carries the same separate upper-only labels of 80 US gallons and 300 L, with no lower endpoint; its 6.4 L total filter volume and 1.50 L prefilter are not an interval. Its exact review keeps the included HeatUp 300 package separate from standard SKU 55162. Test the 80-US-gallon ceiling with earlier models included; the complete-range matcher does not certify Thermo 300 from that upper limit.

At 55 US gallons with earlier models included, fifteen complete-interval models match, including VERSAMAX 3, ULTRAMAX 1000, MULTIKANI 800, FAN 3 PLUS and Aqueon QuietFlow 300 at its conservative 55-gallon lower endpoint; the QuietFlow 200 remains upper-only despite its 55-gallon ceiling, while standard FiltoSmart 200 and the separate Thermo 200 each publish a 55-US-gallon maximum only, not a numeric match. OASE also prints a separate 200-L maximum for each size-200 configuration, but neither ceiling includes a lower endpoint. Compare the VERSAMAX 3, ULTRAMAX 1000, MULTIKANI 800, standard FiltoSmart 200 US, heater-inclusive Thermo 200, the 307, 407 and U4, then test 55 US gallons with earlier models included; the strict interval screen does not treat a maximum as a two-ended recommendation.

Across the 17 reviewed Fluval configurations with both endpoints of an aquarium-capacity interval, the distinct lower boundaries are 5, 10, 12, 20, 24, 34, 40, 50 and 60 US gallons; their Fluval upper boundaries are 15, 20, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65, 70 and 100. Aquael's six current US ULTRA/ULTRAMAX canisters add a separate family of overlapping two-ended intervals, documented model by model below. The Fluval FX pages add upper-only labels of 175, 250 and 400 US gallons; U1/Nano add up-to-15-gallon claims; and the C2/C3/C4 pages add ceilings of 30/50/70 gallons. Both the standard OASE BioPlus 50/100/200 and heater-equipped Thermo 50/100/200 carry maximum-only 15/30/55-gallon labels, respectively; the manuals give a single recommendation per size, not a lower endpoint. Eight reviewed OASE BioMaster² configurations have upper-only labels: standard and Thermo 250/350/600/850 at 70/90/160/225 gallons for each size pair. Those values come from different model families and do not mean that every size is offered in every arrangement. Current AC, C-Series and earlier AquaClear ranges are distinct identities even where a gallon number overlaps. See the 07 Series model table, current AC comparison, C2/C3/C4 comparison, US U Series page, Nano product page, FX family table, earlier AquaClear archive and OASE US internal-filter listing.

Several manufacturer pages give a maximum without a verified minimum: that includes the Fluval FX models, U1/Nano, C2/C3/C4, all six individually reviewed OASE BioStyle configurations, both OASE BioCompact models, standard BioPlus and BioPlus Thermo 50/100/200, all eight reviewed OASE BioMaster² configurations, and standard FiltoSmart 60/100/200/300 plus the distinct Thermo 100 and Thermo 200. BioStyle standard 20/30/50 and Thermo 30/50 carry maximum-only 20/30/50-gallon labels; neither the Grey nor Navy Thermo 30 page establishes a lower interval. BioCompact labels reach 10 and 15 US gallons; both BioPlus variants publish 15/30/55-gallon upper labels for sizes 50/100/200. FiltoSmart standard 100 and Thermo 100 each state a 30-US-gallon ceiling, while standard 200 and Thermo 200 each state 55 US gallons and standard 300 states 80 gallons (with separate 100-L, 200-L and 300-L claims), all without lower endpoints. Their manuals give one recommended volume per size, but no such single value supplies a missing interval endpoint. When a numeric tank volume is supplied, the finder does not invent that lower end. At 20 gallons with “Hang-on filter,” the AC20, AC30 and AC50 appear; at 30 gallons the AC30 and AC50 appear; at 50 gallons the AC50 and AC70 appear. The six BioStyle maximum labels do not make those models exact-volume matches. C2/C3/C4 likewise do not join solely because a ceiling is 30/50/70. A missing result is an evidence boundary, not proof a filter cannot work there. OASE's BioCompact 0.11/0.19 L, standard and Thermo BioPlus 0.3/0.5/0.7 L, BioStyle 1.1/1.9/2.7 L, BioMaster² 4.4/5.6/6.8/8 L and FiltoSmart standard/Thermo filter volumes (0.5/1.3/4.2/6.4 L) are labelled “filter volume,” not media-basket capacity; FiltoSmart 60/100/200/300 and Thermo 100/200 prefilter volumes (0.28/0.70/1.5/1.5/0.70/1.5 L) are likewise not basket values. The basket-minimum question cannot treat these as equivalent. Confirm the exact model manual, installation position, livestock plan and maintenance routine separately.

The OASE 600-size ceiling of 160 gallons and Thermo 850 ceiling of 225 gallons are meaningful maximum labels, but neither completes the maker's range. At 160 US gallons the OASE ceiling does not certify BioMaster² Thermo 600; the exact-volume finder does match Aquael ULTRAMAX 2000 within its independently listed 105–185-gallon interval. Test 160 US gallons with earlier models included and read the ULTRAMAX 2000 assessment beside the Thermo 600 source notes. At 225 US gallons the Thermo 850's ceiling does not complete a tank interval; the exact-volume finder returns no confirmed interval match. Test that value with 225 US gallons, with earlier models included. The empty 225-gallon result is an evidence boundary, not proof that the filter cannot physically run there; neither OASE ceiling supplies a lower endpoint.

OASE's four EcoFlow individual tables give maximums of 15 gallons (60), 26 gallons (100), 40 gallons (150) and 50 gallons (200), while the same pages also use generic family copy saying up to 50 gallons/200 L. The model table keeps the identities separate, but neither that table nor the family sentence states a lower boundary. The exact-volume finder therefore does not treat any EcoFlow ceiling as a proven operating interval; its 0.26/0.39/0.52/0.65 L “filter volume” figures likewise are not stated basket amounts. Check the specific EcoFlow 60, 100, 150 and 200 assessments and ask OASE to clarify the generic-copy conflict before treating the family sentence as the individual model's rating.

Boundary examples: test 9.5 US gallons with earlier models included or test 10 US gallons with earlier models included. For the 9.5-gallon case, compare the current AC20 with the earlier AquaClear 20. At the 10-gallon threshold, also compare the Fluval 107, current AC30 and earlier AquaClear 30; the finder also keeps every other matching model available. For the exact HOB interval witnesses below, see separate AC20, AC30, AC50 and AC70 assessments.

The complete-interval set at 20 US gallons with earlier models included includes Fluval 107, 207, AC20, AC30, AC50, AquaClear 20/30/50, U2, Aquael ULTRA 900, and PAT Mini items 113835 and 120623; BioStyle's upper-only labels do not create an exact-volume fit. Compare the separate extra-sponge 113835 and standard 120623 reviews, then test 20 US gallons with earlier models included. The complete-interval set at 30 US gallons with earlier models included includes Fluval 107, 207, AC30, AC50, AquaClear 30/50, U2/U3, ULTRA 900, ULTRAMAX 1000 and both PAT Mini items; OASE BioStyle 30 and both Thermo 30 finishes remain unconfirmed from maximum-only labels. Test 30 US gallons with earlier models included. The complete-interval set at 50 US gallons with earlier models included includes Fluval 307/407, AC50/AC70, AquaClear 50/70, U4, ULTRA 900/1200 and ULTRAMAX 1000; BioStyle 50 and Thermo 50 ceilings still do not provide lower bounds. Test 50 US gallons with earlier models included.

Separately, the current-generation HOB-only condition has its own exact results: at 20 gallons it is AC20/AC30/AC50, at 30 it is AC30/AC50, and at 50 it is AC50/AC70. The six BioStyle models do not match those HOB volume queries because every BioStyle capacity statement is maximum-only. Test 20 gallons with a hang-on filter, 30 gallons with a hang-on filter or 50 gallons with a hang-on filter.

Aquael's US tables add six true two-ended intervals, not ceilings. ULTRA models are 900 15.8–52.8 gallons (item 122605), 1200 42.3–79.2 (122606) and 1400 68.6–158.5 (122607); ULTRAMAX models are 1000 25–80 (item 123041), 1500 65–120 (123040) and 2000 105–185 (123039). The numeric control accepts half-gallon steps, so boundary examples use adjacent selectable values when a printed endpoint falls between steps. At 15.5 gallons ULTRA 900 is below its 15.8-gallon lower bound; the next valid 0.5-gallon answer, 16, includes it. Test 15.5 gallons and 16 gallons. ULTRA 900 remains in range at 42 gallons; at 42.5 the 1200 also joins, clearing its 42.3-gallon lower endpoint. Test 42 gallons and 42.5 gallons. At 52.5 gallons both 900 and 1200 are inside their intervals; at 53 the 900 is above its 52.8-gallon ceiling while 1200 remains. Test 52.5 gallons and 53 gallons. At 68.5 the 1400 is below its 68.6-gallon lower bound; at 69 both 1200 and 1400 match. Test 68.5 gallons and 69 gallons. At 79 gallons 1200 and 1400 overlap; at 79.5 the 1200 exceeds its 79.2-gallon ceiling, while 1400 remains. Test 79 gallons and 79.5 gallons. At ULTRAMAX boundaries, the 1000's 25–80-gallon interval excludes it at 24.5 and adds it at 25; test 24.5 and 25 gallons. ULTRAMAX 1500 joins at its 65-gallon lower endpoint; compare 64.5 with 65 gallons. At 80 gallons ULTRAMAX 1000 is still within its upper endpoint; at 80.5 it drops out while 1500 remains. Test 80 and 80.5 gallons. ULTRAMAX 2000 is below its 105-gallon lower endpoint at 104.5 and enters at 105; test 104.5 and 105 gallons. At 120 gallons 1500 meets its upper endpoint; at 120.5 it exits while 2000 remains. Test 120 and 120.5 gallons. ULTRAMAX 2000 is within its 185-gallon ceiling at 185, but not at 185.5. Test 185 and 185.5 gallons. At 158.5 gallons ULTRA 1400 and ULTRAMAX 2000 both match, and at 159 only ULTRAMAX 2000 remains: test 158.5 and 159 gallons. The exact item reviews explain below-waterline cabinet fit, separate basket and container amounts, electrical uncertainty and package updates: ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500 and 2000.

At 159 US gallons, three Aquael configurations with complete manufacturer-published ranges remain in bounds: current HYPERMAX 4500 BT item 132256 (ending at 396.25 gallons), archived non-BT HYPERMAX item 131381 (ending at 400 gallons), and ULTRAMAX 2000 (ending at 185 gallons). ULTRA FILTER 1400 stops at 158.5 gallons. This overlap is a source comparison, not a ranking or stock claim. Compare the current BT review, earlier HYPERMAX review and ULTRAMAX 2000 review, then test 159 gallons with earlier models included.

At 185.5 gallons, ULTRAMAX 2000 is above its 185-gallon ceiling, but both HYPERMAX editions remain inside their separately printed gallon intervals; this is not an empty-result boundary. Compare current item 132256 with archived item 131381 at 185.5 gallons with earlier models included, and do not treat either model's range as high-waste or stocking guidance.

The six Aquael intervals above are the ULTRA FILTER and ULTRAMAX size rows; they are not the whole Aquael external range. Current BT item 132256 and archived non-BT item 131381 have separate endpoints: compare the BT review with the earlier review and the same-generation comparison at 52.5 gallons versus 53 gallons.

The six ULTRA FILTER and standard ULTRAMAX size rows are not the whole Aquael interval set. The separate US-localized ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 adds a 26.4–198 US-gallon interval; Aquael pairs 100 L with 26.4 gallons and 750 L with 198 gallons. Because the finder accepts half-gallon steps, 26.0 gallons excludes it while 26.5 gallons includes it. Its upper edge is inside at 198 and outside at 198.5 gallons. Read the exact BT assessment and check the maker's US model page; these capacity labels are not livestock-load ratings.

At 30 gallons with earlier models enabled, the U3 is also in the numeric interval set; compare the Fluval U3 assessment alongside the ULTRAMAX BT review and test the same 30-gallon, earlier-inclusive numeric answer.

With earlier models included and no arrangement condition added, TURBO 1000 is below its 30-gallon lower edge at 29.5 and joins the full volume-match set at 30. At 65 gallons, TURBO 1000 reaches its upper edge while 1500 enters; at 65.5 the 1000 is out and 1500 remains. At 90 gallons both TURBO 1500/2000 match their shared endpoint; at 90.5 the 1500 is out and 2000 remains. At 130 gallons TURBO 2000 remains at its ceiling; at 130.5, it drops from the otherwise nonempty full-finder result set. Compare the exact 1000, 1500 and 2000 US size rows; the 500 still cannot be volume-certified from its upper-only claim. Keep the other numeric-question setting constant and test 29.5/30, 65/65.5, 90/90.5 and 130/130.5 US gallons.

FAN Plus numeric boundary check; all other finder answers keep “include earlier generations” fixed; only entered volume changes. Aquael’s current US family table labels MIKRO PLUS item 120618 only “under 8 US gal,” with no lower endpoint; this upper-only entry cannot satisfy the finder’s exact-volume test at 7.5 or 8. At 7.5 US gallons, no FAN Plus size is certified by a complete printed interval: MIKRO PLUS has no lower endpoint and MINI PLUS begins at 8. Compare the same-condition 7.5-gallon query, where PAT Mini remains an unrelated internal assessment. At 8 US gallons, FAN MINI PLUS item 120619 enters its inclusive 8–15 interval; MIKRO PLUS is not numerically confirmed by its upper-only label. Test 8 gallons; At 8.5 US gallons, FAN MINI PLUS is within its 8–15 interval; MIKRO PLUS still cannot be confirmed from an upper-only maximum. Test 8.5 gallons in the same setup. At 14.5 US gallons, FAN MINI PLUS is still within its 8–15 interval, before the shared 15-gallon endpoint. At 15 US gallons, FAN MINI PLUS and FAN 1 PLUS both match because their printed 8–15 and 15–25 intervals share an inclusive endpoint. At 15.5 US gallons, FAN MINI PLUS has exited its range and FAN 1 PLUS remains within its 15–25 interval. Compare 14.5, 15 and 15.5 gallons. At 24.5 US gallons, FAN 1 PLUS remains in its 15–25 interval before the shared 25-gallon endpoint. At 25 US gallons, FAN 1 PLUS and FAN 2 PLUS both match because their printed 15–25 and 25–35 intervals share an inclusive endpoint. At 25.5 US gallons, FAN 1 PLUS has exited its range and FAN 2 PLUS remains within its 25–35 interval. Check 24.5, 25 and 25.5 gallons. At 34.5 US gallons, FAN 2 PLUS remains within its 25–35 interval before the shared 35-gallon endpoint. At 35 US gallons, FAN 2 PLUS and FAN 3 PLUS both match because their printed 25–35 and 35–65 intervals share an inclusive endpoint. At 35.5 US gallons, FAN 2 PLUS has exited its range and FAN 3 PLUS remains within its 35–65 interval. Compare 34.5, 35 and 35.5 gallons. At 64.5 US gallons, FAN 3 PLUS remains within its 35–65 interval just below its upper endpoint. At 65 US gallons, FAN 3 PLUS remains within its inclusive 35–65-US-gallon interval. At 65.5 US gallons, no FAN Plus size remains in its complete printed interval; FAN 3 PLUS ends at 65 and the smaller FAN rows end earlier. The same internal/no-space/current-only comparisons are 64.5, 65 and 65.5 gallons. Read separate reviews for MIKRO PLUS item 120618, MINI PLUS item 120619, FAN 1 PLUS item 120620, FAN 2 PLUS item 120621 and FAN 3 PLUS item 120622. These are manufacturer-stated volume intervals only—not fish-load, stocking or safe minimum-flow recommendations; their current US power/output labels and older generic-manual values are not silently reconciled.

Neo 300 has a separate upper-only label: the US page says up to 26.4 US gallons and its model row prints 26.42, while the English leaflet's data table says <100 L; no inspected source supplies a lower endpoint. That prevents an exact numeric match even at 26.0 gallons, and 26.5 is above the US row's ceiling. This is an evidence limit, not a claim that the filter cannot physically run below the stated maximum. Read the Neo 300 item 133419 review and test the same internal/current-only answers at 26.0 gallons and 26.5 gallons to see why the ceiling does not complete an interval.

Minimum media volume: a basket number is not a biological-load rating

Turbo Mini Bio's maker-listed 0.1-L media container meets a 0.1-L minimum but not the next 0.2-L step; standard Turbo Mini has no comparable basket-litre value and does not qualify on this field. Keep the other conditions the same for the 0.1-L and 0.2-L answers. See the exact Turbo Mini Bio review and standard Mini review; the stated container size is not a waste-load guarantee.

Neo Bio 1000's listed 0.2-L container qualifies at a 0.2-L minimum but not 0.3 L. In the internal/current-only set, 0.2 L returns Neo Bio 1000 item 134626 plus TURBO 500/1000/1500/2000; at 0.3 L, Neo and the 0.25-L TURBO 500 drop out, leaving the three 0.625-L TURBO sizes. Read the Neo Bio review and test the same 0.2-L and 0.3-L answers.

For the numeric evidence table, the same bare-threshold view keeps every other answer at its default rather than narrowing by arrangement: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.6, 0.7, 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 1.9, 2.0, 3.6, 3.7, 3.9, 4.0 L. Read the representative TURBO 500, Turbo Mini Bio, MULTIKANI 1000, ULTRA FILTER 900, HYPERMAX 4500 BT, FX2, 407 and FX6 assessments; an individual basket amount is not a high-waste rating.

The current US TURBO FILTER table gives one 0.25-L loose-media container on the 500 and one 0.625-L container on each 1000/1500/2000; these are stated container amounts, not total filter-body volume or a fish-load rating. With the quiz's 0.1-L steps, internal-only/current-model minimums of 0.2 and 0.3 L put the 500 on opposite sides of its stated 0.25-L container value; 0.6 and 0.7 L similarly place the 1000/1500/2000 on opposite sides of 0.625 L. At a 0.7-L internal minimum, none of the currently documented internal media compartments qualifies: Aquael's 0.625-L containers fall short, and comparable basket litres for the other internal models are not established. The 500 review explains its upper-only tank-volume limitation; the 1000, 1500 and 2000 reviews compare the larger container with different tank ranges. Use the same internal arrangement and generation setting for 0.2 L/0.3 L and 0.6 L/0.7 L. A numeric media match does not establish model-specific tank fit when that model's tank interval is incomplete.

At a 3.6-L basket minimum, both earlier HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 and current BT item 132256 meet their documented 3.6-L-per-basket amount; at 3.7 L both drop out. The BT model's main baskets total 14.4 L and its separate lid prefilter adds 1.5 L, but neither the 15.9-L system total nor a bucket label replaces one basket's volume. Compare the earlier 131381 review and current BT review at 3.6 L and 3.7 L; those are assessment cases, not a claim that the scenario fits every aquarium.

At a 1.9-L minimum, thirteen current external matches include eight Aquael configurations and five Fluval canisters; HYPERMAX 4500 BT's four 3.6-L baskets also clear that threshold. The separate ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 has five individual baskets of up to 1.9 L. Test that exact external/media combination. At 2.0 L, six current external models remain: five Fluval canisters and HYPERMAX 4500 BT; the six ULTRA FILTER and standard ULTRAMAX sizes plus ULTRAMAX BT all have 1.9-L baskets and fall short. Read the ULTRAMAX BT assessment and compare the BT HYPERMAX review with the earlier model review, then use the same 2.0-L external search; earlier item 131381 is excluded from this default-current-only case.

The 3.9-to-4.0-L basket comparison holds external-canister style, available below-tank space and earlier products constant: test 3.9 L against 4.0 L without substituting prefilter or total bucket volume.

With earlier products enabled, a 1.9-L minimum for external canisters with below-tank room returns fourteen matches: eight current Aquael models, archived HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381, and five Fluval canisters. ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 meets the 1.9-L cutoff because each of its five baskets is up to 1.9 L; its 10.1-L combined media/pre-filter figure is not one basket. At 2.0 L, the seven 1.9-L Aquael models fall short, leaving five Fluval models plus both HYPERMAX editions. Compare the ULTRAMAX BT review, earlier HYPERMAX and current HYPERMAX, then test 1.9 L with earlier products enabled or test the same conditions at 2.0 L. This threshold does not validate stocking or waste-load suitability.

OASE describes a top EcoFlow media basket that can take BioPearls or other media, but the four exact US pages list only total filter volumes—0.26 L for 60, 0.39 L for 100, 0.52 L for 150 and 0.65 L for 200—not a maker-specified basket capacity. The volume field therefore remains unknown for a hard basket threshold, rather than treating a chamber volume or the loose-media description as a litre measurement.

The FiltoSmart 60 review records another easily confused pair: OASE states 0.5 L total filter volume and 0.28 L prefilter volume, but gives no media-basket litre capacity. Neither quantity can satisfy a numeric basket minimum. Compare it with the 3.9-L basket finder, which remains based on maker-labeled media-basket values rather than total equipment volume.

The standard FiltoSmart 100 review documents the same distinction at a different size: OASE lists 1.3 L total filter volume and 0.70 L pre-filter volume but no basket litres. The heater-inclusive Thermo 100 repeats those filter/pre-filter volume labels in a different package; neither its 1.3 L total nor 0.70 L pre-filter figure is basket capacity. Neither package therefore meets an essential media-basket minimum on those fields; test the same 3.9-L or 4.0-L threshold without treating a chamber label as basket capacity.

The standard FiltoSmart 200 review and separate heater-inclusive Thermo 200 review each distinguish 4.2 L of total filter volume from 1.5 L of prefilter volume; neither publishes a media-basket capacity. Because both basket figures are unknown, neither model can meet an essential basket minimum such as 4.0 L by substituting either of those other volume fields.

The standard FiltoSmart 300 review makes the same distinction: 6.4 L is total filter volume and 1.5 L is pre-filter volume, not a stated basket amount. The manual's ceramic-bag count is not a basket-volume measurement, so this model also fails a hard basket minimum when no comparable field is published.

The separate FiltoSmart Thermo 300 US review identifies 6.4 L as total filter volume and 1.50 L as prefilter volume; neither is a media-basket figure. The package's included media and the manual's three ceramic bags and two carbon bags do not quantify basket litres, so Thermo 300 cannot meet an essential basket threshold from these facts. Test the same 4.0-L minimum without converting either chamber label into basket capacity.

At a 3.9-L minimum the documented candidates are the 407, FX2, FX4 and FX6; raising the cutoff to 4.0 L drops FX2 and FX4, leaving the 407 and FX6. In this library the numeric value is manufacturer-stated media-basket volume for the 07 and FX canisters, with known steps at 1.2, 1.8, 3.1, 3.9, 4.2 and 5.9 L. It is not total canister volume, total filtration volume or the FX pre-filter volume. The 07 Series specifications and FX comparison keep those categories separate.

The reviewed hang-on AC/C models and internal U/Nano/BioCompact/BioPlus/BioPlus Thermo units list supplied inserts or media pieces, but no comparable litre basket value was found for those groups. The standard and Thermo BioPlus 0.3/0.5/0.7 L entries describe total filter volume, not a documented basket. Unknown does not meet a hard numeric minimum; adding this requirement can remove a product even when its arrangement or upper label looks promising. This is an evidence limit, not proof the devices cannot hold a certain amount of material. Nor does a larger published basket establish a safe stocking density.

Boundary examples: ask for at least 3.9 L and raise the minimum to 4.0 L. Review the FX2 and FX4 at the 3.9-L boundary, then compare the 407 and FX6 above it.

Aquael lists each of the six ULTRA FILTER 900/1200/1400 and non-BT ULTRAMAX 1000/1500/2000 size-row baskets at 1.9 L; the separate ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 also has five baskets of up to 1.9 L, even though its combined 10.1-L media/pre-filter figure is larger. Current and archived HYPERMAX 4500 editions each have four 3.6-L baskets. At a 1.9-L minimum, all nine qualifying current-and-earlier Aquael external models meet the documented individual-basket threshold: seven 1.9-L configurations and two separate 3.6-L HYPERMAX editions. Compare the ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500, 2000, ULTRAMAX BT 133420, current BT HYPERMAX and earlier HYPERMAX, then test 1.9 L with external canisters and earlier products enabled. At a 2.0-L minimum, the seven 1.9-L ULTRA/ULTRAMAX baskets fall short; the five Fluval canisters and current 3.6-L HYPERMAX 4500 BT remain the six default-current matches, while archived HYPERMAX 131381 needs the earlier-generation choice. Check the same 2.0-L current-only comparison and do not substitute bucket or prefilter volumes for one basket.

To inspect the numeric threshold without narrowing the arrangement, use the 1.9 L library-wide basket finder or the 2.0 L library-wide basket finder. The external-canister comparison above adds an intentional second condition.

The earlier MULTIKANI 800's single 1.0-L basket meets a 1.0-L minimum but not 1.1 L; the current MULTIKANI 1000's single 1.3-L chamber meets 1.3 L but not 1.4 L. These are comparable per-chamber litres, not the total capacity of a multi-basket system. At 40 gallons, Aquael's earlier 800 manual separately calls for four baskets, while the archive row shows one base basket; a 1.0-L minimum does not make three required add-ons part of that base package. Compare earlier item 115089 and current item 135128, then test the same external/space/generation conditions at 1.0 L, 1.1 L, 1.3 L and 1.4 L. The current-only 1.3-L MULTIKANI 1000 assessment is at this same-condition finder query; other documented baskets also qualify, and this does not resolve the 1000's tank interval. The finder tests the stated volume per basket; it does not verify the number of physical modules in a seller's package.

Question: “External canister”

If you choose “External canister,” the current reviewed candidate set is 34 filters: seven Fluval 07/FX models, nine current Aquael ULTRA FILTER, ULTRAMAX, HYPERMAX BT and MULTIKANI 1000 items, eight OASE BioMaster² configurations, four standard FiltoSmart sizes, separate heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 100, 200 and 300 packages, and three Aqueon QuietFlow Canister sizes. A canister needs a safe position, intake/return plumbing, priming and service access. The current ULTRA, both ULTRAMAX editions, HYPERMAX BT and Aqueon QuietFlow models require below-waterline placement. Current MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128 also requires its filter below aquarium water level and manual filling at start-up; its numeric capacity is unresolved, so it cannot be certified for an entered tank volume. OASE's documented beside/under positions and actual hose/head limits vary by model. Read the exact ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 review: its US page gives a 26.4–198-US-gallon interval, five 1.9-L baskets and Bluetooth flow schedules; internet control requires the optional separate gateway. It is a distinct product from standard ULTRAMAX 1000/1500/2000. The current HYPERMAX 4500 BT review covers separate item 132256, a 52.83–396.25-gallon label, four 3.6-L baskets and a 150-cm valves-to-water installation limit. Earlier HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 and MULTIKANI 800 item 115089 are separate opt-in models; do not transfer one generation's placement, tank interval or basket count to another. Check specific geometry and package details.

The Aqueon models are three sizes rather than a single shared specification: QuietFlow 200 SKU 100107312 has a 200-GPH label, three baskets, one polishing unit and only an upper “up to 55 gallons” statement; 300 SKU 100107313 is 300 GPH with two baskets and conflicting capacity sources, screened at their 55–75-gallon overlap; 400 SKU 100107314 is 400 GPH with three baskets and two polishing units, screened at the catalog's 100–150-gallon interval rather than the page/manual ceiling of 155. All three manuals require a gravity-fed below-waterline position, up to 4.5 feet below the waterline; confirm the exact hose, return hardware and room for servicing. Their GPH labels are not independent installed-flow tests, the liters-per-basket values are not published, and none has a sourced high-waste rating.

The exact current MULTIKANI 1000 assessment is one of the eight new current Aquael canisters: the 1.3-L base chamber is below-waterline only, with optional modules sold separately. The guide does not infer its tank-volume range from an inconsistent manufacturer manual.

For scale and configuration differences, compare the Fluval 207 or 407, the FX4 or FX6, OASE standard BioMaster 2 250, 350, 600 and 850 alongside the separate heater-equipped Thermo 250, Thermo 350, Thermo 600 and Thermo 850, and FiltoSmart 60, standard 100, separate heater-inclusive Thermo 100 and Thermo 200, standard 200 and 300. Their upper-only tank labels do not certify a numeric volume interval; the FiltoSmart total-volume figures of 0.5, 1.3, 4.2 and 6.4 L are not basket measurements. These are distinct assessments, not a ranking.

Find all reviewed external-canister matches.

Aquael's US external table also identifies three ULTRAMAX sizes: 1000 item 123041 (25–80 US gal, three 1.9 L baskets), 1500 item 123040 (65–120 gal, four baskets) and 2000 item 123039 (105–185 gal, five baskets). These are distinct from the ULTRA 900 (122605, 15.8–52.8 US gal), 1200 (122606, 42.3–79.2 gal) and 1400 (122607, 68.6–158.5 gal). All six manual-supported canisters require placement below aquarium water level. Check actual room, printed item and nameplate: the current US ULTRAMAX table uses item codes that differ from the older revision chart, the 2000 wattage prose is malformed, and current US voltage/frequency is not established by the checked English sources. Each individual basket is 1.9 L; the complete bucket and the separate approximately 0.6 L prefilter are not basket capacity. Aquael's 2025 notices also change overflow pipes and the 2000 inlet, and the sprinkler update changes the supplied shower count, so verify the actual package. No manufacturer high-waste rating was found.

Heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 300 is also in the external set as a separate filter-and-heater package; its 80-US-gallon label is a ceiling without a verified lower endpoint.

Question: “Hang-on filter”

Aqueon's current hang-on choices now include four separate SmartClean sizes—10–20, 20–30, 30–50, and 50–90 US gallons—alongside the other reviewed HOB families. Each size is a distinct model with its own range, SKU, package cartridge count and body dimensions. Aqueon documents a water-change spout, relative flow adjustment and a freshwater/saltwater claim, but no model GPH or basket-litres figure. Review the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 configurations and check the rim, waterline, rear-wall and spout clearance. Find all reviewed hang-on models.

Five current Aqueon PRO QuietFlow HOB sizes add distinct NoDrip configurations: 10/20/30/50/75 are separate SKUs with different bodies and refill/pad packages, while their exact package ceilings are up to 20/30/45/55/90 gallons and none has a published lower volume endpoint. The PRO size label therefore cannot certify an exact tank-volume match; the current page also gives no GPH, basket litres or explicit high-waste rating. Compare PRO 10, PRO 20, PRO 30, PRO 50 and PRO 75; measure the rim, hood, waterline, rear gap and service space before considering one. The same type-only finder answer retains all 28 reviewed HOB candidates.

If you choose “Hang-on filter” with current-only as the generation setting, 28 current assessments match: nineteen Fluval AC/C, OASE BioStyle and Aquael Versa Pro/VERSAMAX entries, five current Aqueon PRO QuietFlow sizes and four current SmartClean HOB sizes. Exact OASE finish SKUs remain covered in their matching reviews; they do not add a new arrangement. The separate Aquael Versa Pro 20 is a current US HOB item, but its “up to 20” label has no lower interval endpoint and its rim/rear clearances are not listed. A filter that hangs on a glass panel can still conflict with a lid, hood, frame or wall. Measure the rim, confirm the waterline constraint, check the rear position and leave room to lift media. The current AC comparison and C-Series comparison describe different current lines; the generation choice keeps both earlier AquaClear and Aqueon LED PRO models out unless you opt in.

Aquael's current US page lists VERSAMAX 1 (item 115072; 5–25 US gal; two baskets), VERSAMAX 2 (115073; 10–50 US gal; two baskets), VERSAMAX 3 (115074; 20–80 US gal; two baskets) and VERSAMAX MINI (115070; maximum-only numeric fit in this library). The first three have separate intervals; the MINI's lower endpoint remains unresolved. Its exact table lists 60 GPH, 3.3 W and a supplied sponge cartridge but no basket count; the separate replacement cartridge pack is not a filter. For every size, check the rim, exact US item and electrical nameplate; the linked European manuals do not establish North American electrical compatibility. These are distinct powered HOB models, not one shared size entry.

The AC30, AC50 and AC110 illustrate current AC ranges with both endpoints. The C2, C3 and C4 instead have upper-only gallon labels, distinct body dimensions and rim limits. OASE's separate BioStyle 20, 30 and 50 and heater bundles Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50 are additional exact US identities, not aliases for the internal BioPlus models. Their 20/30/50-gallon labels are maximum-only, their stated 1.1/1.9/2.7 L values are total filter volume rather than basket capacity, and the Thermo heater pages carry application caveats; do not convert any of these into a tank-size or basket guarantee. OASE's setup guide specifies less-than-1-inch glass, a 6–14-inch telescoping intake, a waterline no more than 5.5 inches below the rim and an intake 2–3 inches above substrate; measure those exact conditions as well. Do not infer a litre basket volume from supplied inserts, or identify an earlier AquaClear from a seller title alone.

The exact standard 30 finish pages list Navy SKU 84059 and White SKU 84071 with a 115-L maximum, a 154 × 230 × 212 mm body, 4 W, a 550 L/h maximum-flow label and 1.9 L total filter volume; neither publishes a lower range or basket figure. The Grey 84065 routes disagree between 5 W / 150 GPH and 4 W / 145 GPH, although both list 550 L/h. Thermo 50 Navy SKU 84063 and White SKU 84075 share the documented 50-gallon/180-L upper label, three cartridges and three biological foams, HeatUp 50 bundle SKU 33799 and 2.7 L total filter volume. Standard 30 finish pages do not enumerate a full box list, and the accessible Thermo 50 Navy page image does not visually distinguish Navy from White; confirm exact SKU and package instead of treating an image as proof of color.

Question: “Internal filter”

If you choose “Internal filter,” this library returns 40 current assessments: five Fluval U/Nano models, fifteen Aquael internal configurations (including two distinct PAT Mini packages, Neo 300 item 133419, Neo Bio 1000 and the five FAN Plus sizes), twelve OASE internal models, and eight Aqueon internal configurations—the two Betta packages, SmartClean Shrimp 15G, three standard SmartClean Internal sizes, and QuietFlow Internal AT10 and AT40. The Betta packages require a separate air pump; the Shrimp model needs its exact in-tank attachment; AT10 and AT40 have upper-only tank labels, not complete volume ranges. Allow room inside the aquarium for attachment, flow placement and safe service removal. “Internal” avoids a below-tank canister but uses aquarium space; some media formats are not measured with the canister-basket litre field. Confirm the exact model's mounting, heater configuration and service steps suit the aquascape.

Aquael's four internal TURBO assessments are not interchangeable: item 115066 / 500 has only an under-30-gallon ceiling and cannot be volume-certified; 1000 covers 30–65, 1500 65–90, and 2000 90–130 US gallons. Their loose-media containers are 0.25 L on the 500 and 0.625 L on the larger three, but these values do not establish a fish-load rating or North-American electrical supply. Two related compact models widen the pool with different evidence boundaries: Turbo Mini Bio item 135802 is listed for 10–80 L (10 L is about 2.64 US gallons) with one 0.1-L media container; Turbo Mini item 130574 is an internal model with only an exclusive under-21.13-gallon ceiling and no documented lower endpoint or comparable basket amount. The maker's standard Mini size ceiling does not establish an exact-volume match. The Neo Bio 1000 item 134626 is another internal corner filter; its 0.2-L basket is documented, but its “up to 66.04 US gallons” label has no lower endpoint, and optional item 134627 modules are separate purchases. The newer Neo 300 item 133419 has only an upper capacity claim (26.42 US gallons in its US row) and no stated lower endpoint; the review explains the differing English leaflet wording.

The three standard Aqueon SmartClean Internal sizes answer different constraints. Extra Small SKU 100549861 is the smallest body and shows 0–5G on the current page/package, but the catalog's “up to 5” wording does not prove a usable minimum, so it never gets an exact-volume match. Small SKU 100549862 has a closed 5–15 US-gallon label and 35–75 GPH flow label; Medium SKU 100549863 is the 15–30-gallon, 75–150-GPH choice. Both include a size-matched EcoRenew cartridge in a reusable Bio-Holster; there is no comparable basket-litre figure or high-waste rating. The Small and Medium published gallon intervals both include 15. All three use in-tank mounting (framed clip or frameless suction cups) rather than cabinet space. Compare same-current-generation results with no below-tank space using internal plus no cabinet; flow labels are not installed-flow measurements and are not a stocking recommendation.

Use the internal-style finder without adding another condition to keep all 40 arrangements available for comparison.

The current US PAT Mini page distinguishes two powered internal configurations that share the printed 2–30 US-gallon interval but have different package/output rows: item 113835 includes an extra sponge and lists 3 W / 105 US gal/h, while standard item 120623 lists 4.5 W / 119 US gal/h. Both rows pair their GPH figure with 400 L/h, and neither assigns a litre value to its shaped sponge. Read the separate reviews for the unit conflicts and package caveats; the matched gallon label does not certify stocking or waste-load suitability. Compare all current internal arrangements.

The U2 and U4 are distinct U-series sizes; the Nano is a separate item, not U1 under another name. Compare those with BioCompact 25 and BioCompact 50, then standard BioPlus 50, 100 and 200 alongside heater-equipped Thermo 50, 100 and 200. OASE's EcoFlow 60, 100, 150 and 200 add model-specific heights of 8, 9.8, 11.6 and 13.4 inches; compare the height in the tank rather than assuming similar nameplates are the same body size. U2 has a manual-supported interval; Nano, BioCompact and both BioPlus groups use maximum-only labels, so the exact-volume finder does not certify them from those maxima. EcoFlow likewise lists size-specific ceilings of 15/26/40/50 US gallons but no lower interval endpoint; its page's generic “up to 50 gallons” sentence does not change each model table, and its 0.26/0.39/0.52/0.65 L entries are total filter volume rather than stated basket capacity. The standard and Thermo BioPlus bodies grow from the 50-size to the 100 and 200; the current Thermo 50 page/manual differ on height, while Thermo 100 and 200 are 10.6 and 13 inches. Thermo versions add size-matched heaters, not a new filter arrangement.

Find all reviewed internal-filter matches.

Aquael’s SAS FILTER 500 item 129896 is a powered surface-cleaning filter shown in the same US internal category, but its exact US page says “AVAILABLE SOON IN USA.” It is kept as a reference-only assessment, not an additional current match; the maker describes a floating surface intake rather than a documented whole-tank media-basket or high-waste plan. Read the SAS 500 reference assessment for its narrow role and unresolved US package/electrical status.

Current US FAN Plus table: five distinct powered internal items, not one interchangeable model. MIKRO PLUS item 120618 is labeled “under 8 US gallons” with no lower limit, so the numeric finder does not certify any entered tank volume for it. MINI PLUS item 120619 is 8–15 gallons; FAN 1 item 120620 is 15–25; FAN 2 item 120621 is 25–35; FAN 3 item 120622 is 35–65. Their shared 15, 25 and 35-gallon endpoints overlap because the printed ranges are closed. The current US power and output/efficiency rows also differ by size. Read the separate MIKRO PLUS, MINI PLUS, FAN 1 PLUS, FAN 2 PLUS and FAN 3 PLUS reviews. All need adequate internal submergence and removal/service clearance; no comparable basket-litre figure or high-waste rating is published. The linked generic manual omits MIKRO and carries nonmatching legacy technical rows, so check the exact current item and its supplied instructions. The public type-only result is the same internal-filter finder condition.

Aquael's US-localized pages identify three UNIFILTER UV POWER sizes: items 107402 (500), 107403 (750) and 107404 (1000). Their exact product page says “NOT AVAILABLE IN USA YET,” so these remain reference-only rather than current US finder matches. The page gives them distinct 26–52, 52–79 and 66–92 US-gallon labels and flow values; the 750/1000 bands overlap from 66 through 79 gallons, but these maker labels are not stocking guidance. The linked generic manual lists 220–240 V / 50 Hz and disagrees with the product page on wattage, so it does not establish a North-American electrical edition or current US package. Read the 500, 750 and 1000 reference assessments; the type-only query remains the same internal-filter finder condition.

Question: “Yes, space is available”

The full current result with below-tank space available contains 102 models: 28 hang-on, 40 internal, 15 documented adjacent/under OASE external, and 19 canister plans that require below-waterline space. The five current PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 filters are HOB models that do not need a cabinet. The SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium are three of the 40 in-tank internal candidates; check in-tank attachment and service room, separate from below-tank canister space. Measure model-specific rear, rim, waterline and lid clearance for HOB equipment. Find models with below-tank space available.

Each Aqueon SmartClean HOB model uses a rim-hung arrangement and does not require a below-aquarium canister location. The current 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 filters still need their own rim, waterline, back-wall, cover and drain-spout clearance checks. Find reviewed models when below-tank space is available.

Answer “Yes, space is available” only when a suitable below-aquarium position exists; this is installation information, not a canister preference. The current matcher returns 102 current models: nineteen canisters require below-tank space, while 83 other current arrangements do not, including 28 hang-on models, 40 internal models and fifteen OASE external setups. The three current Aqueon SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium candidates use in-tank rather than cabinet space. All nine current Aquael canisters and the three Aqueon QuietFlow 200, 300 and 400 canisters require a suitable below-waterline position. Aqueon's gravity-fed instructions prohibit placement above the aquarium water level and limit the canister to 4.5 feet below it; the family page also says to keep the waterline within 8 inches of the tank frame and route hoses straight. The ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 manual requires below-waterline placement and says to regulate at the OUT valve while keeping the IN valve as open as possible; its five 1.9-L baskets and 26.4–198-gallon range do not alter the location rule. Current MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128 also requires manual filling before start-up and is not documented as self-priming. The current HYPERMAX 4500 BT manual separately limits the distance from valves to water surface to 150 cm; its 2-m maximum-head label does not replace that condition. OASE beside/under positions and hose/head limits vary by model. A free cabinet does not prove clearance for the body, lid, hoses or safe media removal.

The current Versa Pro 20 is a HOB choice that does not use below-tank space; it still needs an exact rim, lid, waterline and rear-clearance check. Compare the 107, AC50, C3, U2, BioStyle 20, BioStyle 30, BioStyle 50, BioStyle Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50, internal BioCompact 25, BioCompact 50, EcoFlow 60, 100, 150 and 200, standard BioPlus 50, 100 and 200, heater-equipped BioPlus Thermo 50, 100 and 200, the standard OASE 850 and heater-equipped Thermo 250, Thermo 600 or Thermo 850 to see how the same location answer leaves different arrangements open.

The no-space and space-available answers both leave the four reviewed current HOB sizes in the result pool: VERSAMAX 1, VERSAMAX 2, VERSAMAX 3 and VERSAMAX MINI. Their HOB position does not require a cabinet beneath the aquarium. Exact rim geometry is not established by the below-tank-space answer.

The available-space set includes two distinct Aquael PAT Mini packages: extra-sponge item 113835 and standard item 120623. Both sit inside a freshwater aquarium rather than below it, but each takes display space and must be removable for sponge cleaning. Compare the same location answer for all reviewed products.

The internal units in this pool include the four distinct Aquael TURBO 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 sizes and current Neo 300 item 133419. These answers do not require below-tank locations; they also do not guarantee room inside the aquarium, an exact capacity match for upper-only models or the seller's electrical edition.

Find all reviewed models when below-tank space is available.

For the additional OASE external setup included in this count, read the exact FiltoSmart 60 assessment before checking its compact beside/behind or optional wall-bracket placement.

The standard FiltoSmart 100, FiltoSmart 200, FiltoSmart 300 and separate heater-inclusive Thermo 100, Thermo 200 and Thermo 300 are included in both location-answer sets because the North American family manual allows next-to or under installation. For Thermo 300 that location evidence does not supply a lower tank-volume limit; check its exact package and component-voltage notes. A no-cabinet scenario is possible only with a stable beside-tank spot, the documented start-up waterline and head limits, a safe hose route and service clearance; it is not an assumption that a canister fits every room.

The six ULTRA/ULTRAMAX plans and current HYPERMAX 4500 BT join this available-space set only because their manuals require below-waterline canister placement. Compare ULTRA FILTER 1200 and ULTRA FILTER 1400 with the HYPERMAX 4500 BT; the BT model's separate 150-cm valves-to-water rule and 4-hose setup are discussed in its individual review, and its 2-m maximum-head figure is not an alternative placement limit. Check the exact cabinet, hose route and lid/tray service clearance.

The additional Aquael internal matches include Turbo Mini Bio, Turbo Mini and Neo Bio 1000 item 134626. None requires an under-aquarium canister location, but each takes space inside the aquarium and needs service access. Bio has a two-ended 10–80-L range and a 0.1-L container; standard Mini has only an upper tank limit and no comparable media volume. Neo Bio lists a 0.2-L container but only an upper tank label; Aquael instructs at least 3 cm submergence, so the in-tank waterline and service route still matter.

The five FAN MIKRO PLUS, MINI PLUS, FAN 1 PLUS, FAN 2 PLUS and FAN 3 PLUS configurations remain in this “space available” set because they mount inside the aquarium, not below it; this choice does not grant extra aquarium clearance. Compare their separate model and service limitations and test the same location answer.

Question: “No, no suitable space”

Without suitable below-tank space, 83 current matches remain: 28 hang-on, 40 internal and 15 documented OASE external arrangements. The five PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 filters remain candidates because their documented plans are hang-on-back. The SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium also need no below-tank cabinet; each uses in-tank mounting instead, so confirm internal attachment and maintenance clearance. Rim, rear-service, waterline and hood clearance remain model-specific checks. Find models without suitable below-tank space.

The four reviewed Aqueon SmartClean HOB sizes remain eligible when there is no suitable below-tank canister position because their documented plan is hang-on-back, not under-stand. Their physical fit is still conditional on an aquarium rim, marked waterline and open rear service space; the location choice does not guarantee those clearances. Compare the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 reviews. Find reviewed models without suitable below-tank space.

The twelve OASE internal models in this pool include two BioCompact, three standard BioPlus, three BioPlus Thermo and four size-specific EcoFlow assessments; compare EcoFlow 60, 100, 150 and 200 for exact ceiling, body-height and service differences. They avoid below-tank canister placement, not in-tank occupancy.

Answer “No, no suitable space” to remove plans requiring below-aquarium canister placement; 83 current-only matches remain: 28 hang-on models, 40 internal models and fifteen OASE external setups with a documented non-cabinet arrangement. This current-only option excludes all nine current Aquael canisters and the Aqueon QuietFlow 200, 300 and 400, because their operating instructions require a below-waterline canister position; do not turn an interval label into a location exception. The earlier MULTIKANI 800 does permit documented non-cabinet pump layouts, but it is absent unless earlier models are enabled. A beside-tank OASE position remains conditional on head, hose routing and service access, not a blanket room-fit guarantee; FiltoSmart 60 allows next-to/behind placement or an optional wall bracket, while the North American FiltoSmart 100/200/300/Thermo 100/200/300 manual permits next-to or under placement with start-up and head limits. Thermo 300 SKU 55165 is included as its own external filter-and-heater package; its 80-gallon ceiling and unknown basket do not resolve numeric fit. Thermo 200's heater page has conflicting voltage text and its capacity/basket unknowns remain unresolved despite its location match. Hang-on units need a compatible rim and rear clearance; internal filters occupy tank space and need a service route. The three current SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium models also stay in this no-cabinet set because they mount inside the tank; they still need attachment clearance and service access. Four additional current HOB candidates are the exact VERSAMAX 1, 2, 3 and MINI; no below-tank spot is needed for their rim-hung arrangement. The four TURBO internal sizes likewise avoid a below-tank position but take aquarium space; verify in-tank clearance, filter service access and the exact model's item/electrical edition. Other current internal models include Turbo Mini Bio item 135802, Turbo Mini item 130574, Neo Bio 1000 item 134626 and Neo 300 item 133419; Bio carries a 10–80-L interval, standard Mini and Neo 300 have upper-only labels, and Neo Bio lists a 0.2-L basket but no lower volume endpoint. The two PAT Mini item 113835 and standard item 120623 configurations also avoid below-tank placement, but they still require tank interior room and sponge-service clearance.

Examples in the remaining set are the AC50, C2, U3, all six exact BioStyle 20, BioStyle 30, BioStyle 50, Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50, BioCompact 25 and BioCompact 50, standard BioPlus 50, 100 and 200, heater-equipped Thermo 50, 100 and 200, the standard OASE 850, and heater-equipped Thermo 250, Thermo 600 and Thermo 850, plus FiltoSmart Thermo 300; the finder link still exposes every matching candidate.

The no-cabinet HOB set now includes the current Aquael Versa Pro 20 item 132450 as well as AC/C-Series and BioStyle models. Its rim-hung plan does not require canister cabinet space, but no item-specific rim, lid or rear-wall limits are stated.

The internal-model portion also includes TURBO 500 item 115066, 1000 item 115067, 1500 item 115068 and 2000 item 115069; they do not use cabinet space, but the body occupies the aquarium and the 500 remains upper-only for volume matching.

The internal pool also contains PAT Mini extra-sponge item 113835 and standard item 120623. Both are explicitly internal, with suction-cup or tank-edge mounting described by Aquael; neither needs a below-tank position, and neither has a verified loose-media basket litre value.

Find all reviewed models without suitable below-tank space.

None of the nine current Aquael canisters is among the 83 current no-below-tank-space matches: their instructions require below-waterline installation. Even where a published range contains the entered tank volume, it cannot meet this location condition. Read the ULTRAMAX BT review, six ULTRA/standard ULTRAMAX size assessments and the exact current HYPERMAX BT review before comparing placement alternatives; the archived non-BT model is excluded unless earlier models are enabled.

The OASE FiltoSmart 60 is one external option for a no-cabinet installation; its exact page supports adjacent/behind placement or an optional bracket, subject to a workable hose and service route.

The standard FiltoSmart 100, FiltoSmart 200, FiltoSmart 300 and heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 100 and Thermo 200 have a documented next-to-aquarium alternative in the North American family manual. Confirm a secure adjacent surface and obey the exact start-up, head, hose and service directions rather than assuming the arrangement is physically available in every room.

Current FAN Plus items 120618, 120619, 120620, 120621 and 120622 remain in the no-below-tank result pool. “No cabinet” does not mean “no placement needs”: confirm submergence, interior footprint, outlet direction, tank structure and room to remove each sponge. Use the same no-space query; every FAN item stays a distinct current model.

Question: “No, compare current-generation models only”

The current-only library contains 102 reviewed filters: 20 Fluval, 29 Aquael, 33 OASE and 20 Aqueon configurations. The five PRO QuietFlow sizes remain current; compare PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75. Current Aqueon internal options also include SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium. The generation setting does not resolve unknown capacity/media values or merge any sizes. Find current-generation models only.

All four Aqueon SmartClean HOB sizes are current references and stay in the current-only result set. The current-generation choice does not merge the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 SKUs or change their exact range and installation evidence. Compare the smallest, 20–30, 30–50 and largest current configurations. Find reviewed current-generation models only.

The current OASE internal lineup includes four exact EcoFlow bodies: 60, 100, 150 and 200. Their 4.5 W (60/100) versus 8 W (150/200) pump ratings, differing heights and maximum-only volume tables are model-specific facts, not generational aliases.

The current-only set contains 102 reviewed filters; opting into earlier models adds twelve distinct configurations for 114 matches. Those earlier entries are five AquaClear sizes, five Aqueon QuietFlow LED PRO sizes, and the archived Aquael HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 and MULTIKANI 800 item 115089. The LED PRO packages have a flashing change indicator and upper-only capacity labels; they are not aliases for current PRO QuietFlow NoDrip filters. Earlier HYPERMAX 4500 and MULTIKANI 800 are distinct from the current HYPERMAX 4500 BT item 132256 and MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128; their pump, media and installation details differ. Review earlier HYPERMAX 4500 beside current HYPERMAX 4500 BT, and earlier MULTIKANI 800 beside current MULTIKANI 1000; similar names do not establish that parts or operating plans transfer. The current set includes 20 Fluval, 29 Aquael, 33 OASE and 20 Aqueon configurations. Reviews also preserve meaningful current distinctions such as the two PAT Mini packages, the separate ULTRAMAX BT, and the three Aqueon QuietFlow canister sizes.

The five other current Aquael assessments in this total are the exact FAN models: MIKRO PLUS item 120618, MINI PLUS item 120619, FAN 1 PLUS item 120620, FAN 2 PLUS item 120621 and FAN 3 PLUS item 120622. Each remains current regardless of whether the separately reviewed earlier-generation filters are included.

Compare a current AC50 with a current C3 and FX4 by arrangement and installation, not by the shared word “Fluval.” OASE's current configurations include the hang-on BioStyle 20, 30, 50, Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50, internal BioCompact 25 and BioCompact 50, standard BioPlus 50, 100 and 200, heater-equipped BioPlus Thermo 50, 100 and 200, the standard BioMaster 2 350 and heater-equipped Thermo 350; internal, rim-mounted and external plans differ and some flow/head/volume values remain unresolved.

The four current Aquael TURBO 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 internal rows join the current-only pool as separate model ranges; the 500's ceiling-only label is not a numeric recommendation, while the other three publish closed gallon intervals.

Find reviewed current-generation models only.

Among the OASE external plans in this current-only set are standard FiltoSmart 60, 100, 200 and 300, plus separate heater-inclusive Thermo 100, Thermo 200 and Thermo 300, all distinct US configurations rather than legacy AquaClear variants. The North American FiltoSmart family manual supports next-to or under installation for the standard 100/200/300 and Thermo 100/200/300; check the start-up and head limits instead of assuming any size requires an under-tank cabinet.

The Aquael 900/1200/1400 are distinct current US-catalogue rows (items 122605/122606/122607), not earlier-name aliases. Their ranges overlap at 42.3–52.8 and 68.6–79.2 US gallons, and all need a below-waterline cabinet; compare each 900, 1200 and 1400 assessment rather than using a series number as a tank-load rating.

The current ULTRAMAX 1000/1500/2000 are also current-generation canisters, not legacy AquaClear models. Compare the exact ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500 and 2000 reviews with the ULTRA range. All six ULTRA/ULTRAMAX models require below-waterline installation. Current HYPERMAX 4500 BT item 132256 is a seventh distinct current Aquael canister; its BT app and 52.83–396.25-gallon range do not turn the archived non-BT model into a current product. See the BT review and exact earlier comparison.

All five current US FAN rows stay in this current-generation comparison: MIKRO PLUS 120618, MINI PLUS 120619, FAN 1 PLUS 120620, FAN 2 PLUS 120621 and FAN 3 PLUS 120622. They have distinct US table capacity and electrical-output rows even though the shared generic manual does not crosswalk every current article number; the current-only finder is here.

Question: “Yes, include earlier-generation models”

Including earlier generations gives 114 reviewed configurations: the same 102 current models plus twelve distinct earlier configurations. The five PRO QuietFlow sizes and three standard SmartClean Internal sizes remain current in that expanded set; the toggle adds separate AquaClear, Aqueon LED PRO and Aquael models rather than older versions of those exact current SKUs. Compare PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75, plus SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium. Find models with earlier generations included.

Including earlier generations adds no older SmartClean HOB model: all four Aqueon sizes remain current references in the expanded result set. This toggle leaves their exact 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 gallon labels unchanged; it only adds separately identified earlier products elsewhere in the library. Read the individual 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 assessments. Find models with earlier generations included.

The current base set opt-in comparison also contains four individually assessed OASE EcoFlow internal models: 60, 100, 150 and 200. The earlier switch adds five separate AquaClear configurations; it does not change these current models' individual ceiling-only volume evidence.

“Yes, include earlier-generation models” adds twelve individually assessed earlier configurations to the 102 current filters: five AquaClear HOB sizes, five Aqueon QuietFlow LED PRO sizes, archived HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 and MULTIKANI 800 item 115089. The earlier Aquael canisters are distinct from current HYPERMAX 4500 BT item 132256 and MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128; item identity, pump, media and installation evidence differ. Read the earlier HYPERMAX 4500 with current HYPERMAX 4500 BT and earlier MULTIKANI 800 with current MULTIKANI 1000; model-family names do not establish that parts or operating plans transfer. The same earlier-inclusive finder result retains all 114 reviewed configurations.

For 20- and 50-class examples, read the current AC20 beside the earlier AquaClear 20, and the current AC50 review beside the earlier AquaClear 50 assessment; the separate current C3 shows another current HOB identity. These paired model names do not prove every part is interchangeable. The six separately researched current BioStyle assessments are BioStyle 20, BioStyle 30, BioStyle 50, Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50; the two Thermo 30 colors name different exact base/bundle SKUs. The current OASE BioCompact 25, BioCompact 50, standard BioPlus 50, 100 and 200, heater-equipped BioPlus Thermo 50, 100 and 200, BioMaster 2 350 and heater-equipped Thermo 250 illustrate distinct internal and external configurations; their maximum-only volume labels do not turn them into matches for an exact numeric tank answer.

Including earlier-generation products leaves these same current Aquael TURBO 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 rows unchanged; the toggle adds older AquaClear and Aquael rows, not older versions of the TURBO items.

Find matches with earlier models included.

The same current external comparison includes OASE FiltoSmart 60, standard 100, 200 and 300 assessments plus separate heater-inclusive Thermo 100, Thermo 200 and Thermo 300; the earlier opt-in adds only the individually identified AquaClear units.

These three Aquael ULTRA sizes remain in both generation pools because the US family page lists them as current configurations; the earlier toggle adds only the five AquaClear generations. Compare exact Aquael items 122605, 122606 and 122607 without inferring any legacy compatibility.

The current ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500 and 2000 also remain in both generation pools; their current-catalogue identity is separate from the earlier AquaClear toggle. Confirm the exact model and package before ordering.

Enabling earlier products does not relabel the five current FAN sizes: each remains its own reviewed current item—120618 MIKRO PLUS, 120619 MINI PLUS, 120620 FAN 1 PLUS, 120621 FAN 2 PLUS and 120622 FAN 3 PLUS. Compare the same full-library answer at the earlier-enabled finder.

Question: “Yes, this evidence is essential” for high-waste guidance

None of the 102 current reviewed US buying-eligible filter configurations documents manufacturer high-waste suitability, so requiring this evidence returns no matches. This is a bounded library evidence gap, not proof that no filter anywhere can fit such a need. The three current SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium reviews explicitly leave high-waste support unknown; their gallon labels, flow labels and cartridge count do not establish a load rating. Check the same high-waste evidence choice.

The same high-waste evidence requirement has no match across the 102 current buying-eligible models in this library; this does not prove that no filter anywhere can work. Aquael's ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 adds Bluetooth flow modes and a 2200-L/h pump-capacity label; the Neo Bio 1000 item 134626 lists a 0.2-L container and 1000-L/h output, but neither quantity substitutes for an explicit waste-load rating. Both PAT Mini item 113835 and item 120623 likewise have no published high-waste claim; their separate sponge bundles, volume labels and listed pump outputs are not a substitute. The VERSAMAX 1, VERSAMAX 2, VERSAMAX 3, VERSAMAX MINI and four separate TURBO sizes have model-specific flow and range descriptions, but none supplies an explicit fish-count or waste-load rating. Do not infer heavy-stock support from large capacity, more media, heater wattage or a pump figure.

When unusually heavy stocking or waste is central, consult a knowledgeable aquatic professional and plan monitoring and staged maintenance before selecting hardware. Leave this evidence requirement open only if it is not essential to your decision; doing so does not certify high-load suitability.

Check whether this library has a qualifying high-waste assessment.

At 20 US gallons, choosing an internal filter and making explicit high-waste guidance essential still returns no match. This combined result does not turn Neo Bio 1000's 0.2-L media container, 1000-L/h output or optional expansion into a load rating; nor do PAT Mini's model-specific sponge bundle, 2–30-gallon range or listed output establish high-waste suitability. Compare the exact Neo Bio 1000, PAT Mini 113835 and PAT Mini 120623 assessments and test all three choices together.

None of the eight current Aquael ULTRA/ULTRAMAX/HYPERMAX BT reviews documents an explicit manufacturer high-waste rating. The HYPERMAX pages' broad volume, basket and pump figures cannot substitute for a load claim, and ULTRAMAX BT item 133420's app-controlled flow modes do not fill that gap. Compare the ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500, 2000, ULTRAMAX BT and HYPERMAX 4500 BT; a large label is not a documented stocking assessment.

The five Aquael FAN Plus assessments do not fill the documentary gap: none has an explicit manufacturer high-waste or fish-load suitability statement. Their printed volume labels and listed output figures are not a substitute. Inspect the exact MIKRO, MINI, 1, 2 or 3 assessment for supported evidence, or test this exact requirement; an empty result is not a judgment about real biological load.

Interaction: external canister plus no below-tank location

Combining “External canister” with “No, no suitable space” returns fifteen OASE models: the seven reviewed Fluval canisters require a below-aquarium position, while the eight BioMaster² models, standard FiltoSmart 60/100/200/300 and heater-inclusive Thermo 100/200/300 have documented placements that do not require a below-tank cabinet. The models are not a universal fit for a beside-tank location: check actual maximum head, hose geometry, support and service access. Compare standard BioMaster 2 850 with heater-equipped Thermo 250, Thermo 600 and Thermo 850, plus the exact-US FiltoSmart 60, standard FiltoSmart 100, distinct heater-inclusive FiltoSmart Thermo 100, Thermo 200 and Thermo 300, and standard 200 and 300. The manual's next-to-or-under placement still depends on its start-up and head instructions, stable support and service clearance.

Test both choices together.

The eight current Aquael ULTRA/ULTRAMAX/HYPERMAX-size plans are not no-cabinet alternatives: their manuals require below-waterline canister placement. At 20 gallons ULTRA 900 is within its volume interval but still fails the unavailable-space condition; the ULTRAMAX BT interval does not begin until 26.4 gallons. The three Aqueon QuietFlow canisters also require below-waterline space and are removed before any numeric range is considered. Review the ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500, 2000, ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 and HYPERMAX 4500 BT. The ninth current Aquael canister, MULTIKANI 1000, is separately unresolved for tank volume and also requires below-waterline placement. Aqueon's QuietFlow 200, 300 and 400 are three additional below-waterline plans; without that location they are excluded regardless of their model-specific gallon evidence. Test 20 gallons with external style and no below-tank place.

Interaction: external canister with a suitable below-tank space

With a suitable below-tank place and an external-canister choice, all 34 current external assessments match: seven Fluval models, nine Aquael ULTRA FILTER/ULTRAMAX/HYPERMAX BT/MULTIKANI 1000 items, fifteen OASE plans (eight BioMaster² configurations, four standard FiltoSmart sizes and heater-inclusive Thermo 100, 200 and 300), and the three Aqueon QuietFlow sizes. Available cabinet space still does not prove that a specific stand meets the model's height, hose, head and lifting-clearance instructions. Read the ULTRAMAX BT item-133420 review for its below-waterline requirement, five 1.9-L baskets and 26.4–198-gallon interval, and the HYPERMAX 4500 BT item-132256 review for its separate 150-cm installation condition. The MULTIKANI 1000 review documents its one 1.3-L base chamber, required below-waterline placement, manual filling and unresolved tank-volume interval. Other makers' beside/under plans have their own setup limits. The QuietFlow 200, 300 and 400 share Aqueon's gravity-fed below-waterline installation rule, with a 4.5-foot maximum vertical gap in the manual; check each exact return and hose package rather than treating available cabinet space as a size fit.

Test the external style and available-space choices together.

The Fluval 107 and Fluval 407 reviews show two examples within the seven current Fluval canister matches; the available-space answer alone does not establish a tank-volume or load fit.

All eight current Aquael ULTRA/ULTRAMAX/HYPERMAX-size plans listed here require below-waterline placement: ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500, 2000, ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 and HYPERMAX 4500 BT. The ULTRA, standard ULTRAMAX and ULTRAMAX BT baskets are 1.9 L each; HYPERMAX BT has four 3.6-L baskets. The separate MULTIKANI 1000 below-waterline plan is documented above.

Interaction: internal filter plus no below-tank location

All 40 current internal models remain in the result whether below-tank space is available or unavailable, including SmartClean Shrimp 15G, both Betta packages and QuietFlow Internal AT10/AT40. The Shrimp filter hangs inside a compatible aquarium and does not need a cabinet, but verify its framed clip or frameless suction-cup fit; the Betta packages' required air pump is a separate purchase, and AT10/AT40 still need internal body clearance. Compare SmartClean Shrimp 15G, Natural Plant, Volcano, AT10 and AT40; run the exact internal-plus-space searches for space available or space unavailable.

All three current SmartClean Internal sizes stay in the internal result with either below-tank-space answer: XS, Small and Medium mount inside the aquarium rather than in a cabinet. This location answer does not resolve numeric fit or free space inside the tank. Read the XS, Small and Medium reviews, then compare the exact combinations internal plus below-tank space available and internal plus no suitable below-tank space.

An internal-filter choice remains compatible with “No, no suitable space,” returning all 40 current internal models; none requires below-aquarium canister placement. These include the five Fluval U/Nano, fifteen Aquael, twelve OASE BioCompact/BioPlus/EcoFlow, and eight Aqueon internal configurations. The Aqueon group spans two Betta packages that require a separate air pump, SmartClean Shrimp 15G with its framed-clip/frameless-suction-cup fit check, three standard SmartClean Internal sizes, and AT10/AT40 whose upper-only tank labels do not establish numeric matches. Compare the XS, Small and Medium variants plus the AT10 and AT40; each still needs tank-interior fit and service clearance. The four Aquael TURBO internal sizes use tank space; the 500's volume label is upper-only, while the 1000/1500/2000 have separate stated ranges. The compact alternatives are Turbo Mini Bio, with a 10–80-L label and 0.1-L media container; Turbo Mini, with a smaller upper-only tank claim and no sourced basket amount; Neo Bio 1000 item 134626, with an upper-only 66.04-gallon label and 0.2-L basket; and the separately reviewed PAT Mini extra-sponge item 113835 and standard item 120623, both of which require in-tank mounting rather than a below-tank canister position.

Compare the U2 and Nano with OASE BioCompact 25, BioCompact 50, standard BioPlus 50, 100 and 200, and heater-equipped Thermo 50, 100 and 200. Test the internal and location choices together.

With a suitable below-tank place, the same 40 internal models remain: the space answer does not add a canister, and internal filters still need aquarium room and service access. Compare the U2, BioCompact 25, BioCompact 50, standard BioPlus 100, heater-equipped Thermo 100, EcoFlow 150, the four Aquael TURBO internal sizes, Turbo Mini Bio, Turbo Mini, Neo Bio 1000 and both PAT Mini item 113835 and standard item 120623 configurations. All five FAN Plus models, Neo 300, Aqueon SmartClean Internal XS/Small/Medium and QuietFlow Internal AT10/AT40 likewise require in-tank clearance rather than a below-tank cabinet. Test the internal and available-space choices together.

The internal family comparison is size-specific: see the 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 reviews for their separate media-container and gallon labels.

The PAT Mini variants also stay in both location results: 113835 names an extra sponge and a 3-W / 105-US-gal/h row, while standard 120623 lists 4.5 W / 119 US gal/h; both share a printed 2–30-US-gallon interval but have no stated basket volume. Test the same internal arrangement with no suitable below-tank position or space available.

Current Aquael FAN Plus items 120618 MIKRO, 120619 MINI, 120620 FAN 1, 120621 FAN 2 and 120622 FAN 3 are internal and appear under either cabinet answer; aquarium placement and service access remain separate checks.

Interaction: hang-on filter plus no below-tank location

For hang-on filters with below-tank space unavailable, each of the five PRO QuietFlow sizes remains a match without a cabinet, but its gallon ceiling alone still cannot certify numeric fit. Read PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75; test this combined condition at hang-on plus no below-tank space.

For hang-on filters with below-tank space available, each of the five PRO QuietFlow sizes remains a match without requiring a cabinet, while rim and rear-service fit still need checking. Compare PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75; test the same combined choice at hang-on plus space available.

Each SmartClean HOB model matches both below-tank-space answers because its plan does not require a canister cabinet. The hang-on arrangement still needs an aquarium rim and rear clearance, so “space available” does not mean every installation fits. The 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 gallon sizes remain separate candidates with exact model-specific limits. Review the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 filters. Test hang-on with space available or hang-on without below-tank space.

For a hang-on search, the current set under “No, no suitable space” returns nineteen current HOB assessments, including Aquael Versa Pro 20 and four distinct VERSAMAX models, and still depends on suitable rim, waterline and rear access. This combination replaces a cabinet check with model-specific rim and clearance checks rather than eliminating installation work. The four new powered units are reviewed separately: VERSAMAX 1, VERSAMAX 2, VERSAMAX 3 and VERSAMAX MINI; aquarium-rim clearance, exact product edition and maintenance access remain checks.

The Versa Pro 20 is included as a no-cabinet HOB option, with its exact rim and clearance limits still unknown. Review the AC30 and AC110 alongside the distinct C2, C3 and C4, and the six BioStyle 20, 30, 50, Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50. Test the hang-on and no-space choices together.

With “Hang-on filter” and “Yes, space is available,” the matcher returns nineteen current AC/C/BioStyle, Aquael Versa Pro 20 and VERSAMAX reviews; none requires below-tank installation. The Aquael Versa Pro 20 remains included in this location combination, but its page gives no exact rim, lid, rear gap or waterline limits. The four VERSAMAX 1, 2, 3 and MINI models add separate HOB assessments; exact rim clearance remains model-specific. The answer does not rank or prefer HOB models, and the rim, waterline and access checks still apply. Test hang-on with a suitable below-tank place.

Interaction: 30 US gallons plus an external canister

At 30 US gallons, choosing an external canister returns five models: Fluval 107 and 207, Aquael ULTRA FILTER 900, ULTRAMAX 1000 and ULTRAMAX BT item 133420. Both Aquael intervals contain that volume. The ULTRAMAX BT adds Bluetooth app-set flow modes but remains a distinct 1.9-L-per-basket plan; read its exact assessment. OASE FiltoSmart 60/100/200/300 and heater-inclusive Thermo 100/200/300 maximum-only labels do not certify the same exact-volume fit because those pages do not provide lower endpoints. This remains a volume screen before species, waste, current preference or installation. Compare the ULTRA 900, ULTRAMAX 1000 and ULTRAMAX BT, then test 30 US gallons with the external-canister answer.

Test 30 gallons with the external-canister choice.

At 30 gallons both Aquael ULTRA 900 and ULTRAMAX 1000 are full-interval matches. ULTRAMAX 1500 starts at 65 gallons and 2000 at 105; older generation codes, wattage notes and current US nameplate/package details remain separate checks rather than an inference from the family name. For the named external candidates, see the individual Fluval 107, Fluval 207, Aquael ULTRA 900 and ULTRAMAX 1000 assessments.

Interaction: 20 US gallons, external canister and no below-tank space

At 20 US gallons with an external-canister choice and no suitable below-tank place, this reviewed library returns no match: all seven Fluval and all nine current Aquael canister plans require below-aquarium space, while the OASE models with documented non-cabinet placement have only upper-only volume claims and no lower endpoint. Standard FiltoSmart 60/100/200/300 and the distinct heater-inclusive Thermo 100/200/300 have installation options that can avoid a below-tank cabinet, but their exact upper-only ceilings do not establish a complete interval at 20 gallons. The Aquael ULTRA, standard ULTRAMAX, ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 and HYPERMAX BT canisters require below-waterline placement; the ULTRAMAX BT's numeric range starts at 26.4 gallons. MULTIKANI 1000 likewise requires below-waterline placement but has unresolved tank-volume bounds. ULTRA 900's published interval contains 20 gallons, but it still fails the unavailable-space condition. This is an evidence limitation rather than proof that no physical configuration could work; compare exact reviews and test the same 20-gallon external/no-space combination before relaxing either hard requirement.

Test 20 gallons, external canister and no below-tank space together.

Interaction: external-canister gallon ranges and below-waterline placement

At 50 US gallons, external style and available below-tank space yield six interval-confirmed matches, including Aquael ULTRAMAX BT item 133420. The set also includes ULTRA 900/1200, ULTRAMAX 1000 and Fluval 307/407; each Aquael canister needs below-waterline placement. Compare the ULTRA 900, 1200, ULTRAMAX 1000, ULTRAMAX BT, Fluval 307 and 407, then test the same 50-gallon external-canister setup with space available.

At 50 US gallons, external style with no suitable below-tank space returns no interval-confirmed match: the in-range Aquael and Fluval canisters need below-waterline placement, while OASE's location-flexible models have upper-only tank labels. This is a combined installation-and-evidence conflict, not a claim that no physical filter could work. The ULTRAMAX 1000 is within its gallon interval here but fails the placement condition; an OASE next-to placement does not fill the missing lower endpoint. Test the same 50-gallon external-canister setup without below-tank space.

At 110 US gallons, external style and available below-tank space return six interval-confirmed models in the current-only set: ULTRA FILTER 1400, HYPERMAX 4500 BT, ULTRAMAX 1500, ULTRAMAX 2000, ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 and Aqueon QuietFlow 400 SKU 100107314. The 1500's 65–120-gallon range overlaps the 2000's 105–185 range, while the ULTRA 1400 spans 68.6–158.5 gallons and the BT HYPERMAX starts at 52.83; the separate ULTRAMAX BT range also contains 110. These source ranges do not rank stocking suitability. Compare the ULTRA 1400, HYPERMAX 4500 BT, ULTRAMAX 1500, 2000, ULTRAMAX BT and QuietFlow 400; Aqueon's conservative catalog interval is 100–150 gallons, nested within the page/manual ceiling of up to 155. Test the same 110-gallon current-only setup.

At 110 US gallons, external style with no below-tank space returns no interval-confirmed model: the in-range Aquael plans require below-waterline placement and OASE's beside-tank models lack complete numeric intervals. The positive result at the same volume therefore depends on both the actual under-tank location and the model's published two-ended range; check the real cabinet and service clearance. Test 110 gallons with external style and no suitable below-tank place.

Choosing earlier products adds archived non-BT HYPERMAX 4500 to that 110-gallon current-only result, for six interval-confirmed external arrangements; it does not remove the need for below-waterline space. Compare item 131381 with current BT item 132256 and current ULTRAMAX BT item 133420, then test the same setup with earlier models included.

Interaction: 40 gallons, earlier external model and no below-tank space

At 40 US gallons, an external-canister choice, no suitable below-tank space, earlier models enabled and a 1.0-L minimum per basket, the only matching reviewed model is Aquael MULTIKANI 800 item 115089. Its older manual describes a pump mounted inside the aquarium with the external filter body above or below the waterline; the current MULTIKANI 1000 requires below-waterline placement and cannot replace that older layout. The 800 range's basket count matters: about 151 L falls in the maker's 121–160 L band for four baskets, but the archive row lists one base basket, so confirm three separate additions and the exact used-unit package. The external pump layout is a different manual option and requires priming. This match is a configuration-dependent assessment, not confirmation of seller availability or stocking suitability. Read the MULTIKANI 800 review beside the current MULTIKANI 1000 review, then test all five answers together.

Interaction: current MULTIKANI 1000 with a specific tank volume

At 40 US gallons, current-only external style and available below-tank space do not make MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128 a volume-confirmed match because its exact package interval is unresolved. Its one 1.3-L chamber can satisfy a separate media-basket minimum, but the current page, leaflet and manual conflict about tank-size ranges and module counts. This same five-model query also includes the distinct ULTRAMAX BT item 133420, whose 26.4–198-gallon interval contains 40, and the Fluval 207; compare those with item 135128's exact review before using this same four-answer finder query. The unconfirmed Multikani range remains an evidence gap, not proof the filter cannot physically run on a 40-gallon aquarium.

Interaction: 30 US gallons plus an internal filter

At 15 US gallons with an internal-filter choice, SmartClean Shrimp 15G (5–15), SmartClean Internal Small (5–15) and Medium (15–30) all qualify at their inclusive endpoints; at 15.5 only Medium remains. The exact Shrimp item is independently catalogued at 5–15 gallons; the XS has no supported lower endpoint, so it is not a volume match even though the page/package prints 0–5G. Compare XS, Small, Medium and Shrimp 15G with the exact 15-gallon/internal and 15.5-gallon/internal finder results.

At 30 US gallons with an internal-filter choice, SmartClean Internal Medium remains within its inclusive 15–30 range; at 30.5 it has left that interval. Small ends at 15 and the Extra Small cannot be volume-certified. Check the Medium review and compare 30 gallons with internal selected to 30.5 gallons with internal selected.

At the same 30-gallon volume, the internal-style comparison includes Aquael TURBO 1000, FAN 2 PLUS, Fluval U2/U3 and both PAT Mini configurations; BioPlus 100 and the maximum-only BioPlus Thermo/EcoFlow labels do not supply a lower interval endpoint. It does not borrow a canister's basket-volume or below-tank assumptions. Aquael item 115067 lists a closed 30–65-US-gallon interval, while PAT Mini items 113835 and 120623 both print 2–30 US gallons, so the TURBO 1000, PAT Mini extra-sponge review, standard PAT Mini review, U2 and U3 are interval matches here. The PAT Mini rows list distinct package and power/output figures; neither is a waste-load rating. BioPlus 100 is labelled up to 30 US gallons; the Thermo sizes have respective 15-, 30- and 55-gallon ceilings; and the four EcoFlow tables show 15/26/40/50-gallon maxima, respectively. None of those upper-only labels supplies a lower interval endpoint. Internal placement still takes aquarium space. The U2 and U3 assessments retain their individual published ranges and media-package notes; compare standard BioPlus 100 with heater-equipped Thermo 50, Thermo 100, Thermo 200 and EcoFlow 60, 100, 150 or 200 for exact model ceilings and package limits. Test the same 30-gallon internal setup.

Neo Bio 1000's label does not change that 30-gallon exact screen: its US-localized page says “up to 250 L / 66.04 US gal” but has no lower endpoint, so a 30-gallon answer cannot be certified against a two-ended range. That is a missing numeric bound, not a finding that the filter cannot operate there. Read the item 134626 review and test the same 30-gallon/internal choices.

At 20 US gallons with the internal-style choice, FAN 1 PLUS, Turbo Mini Bio, Fluval U2 and both PAT Mini configurations fall inside documented two-ended ranges; standard Turbo Mini remains placement-only because its maker gives no lower tank endpoint. This result is separate from waste-load advice. Read the Bio assessment, standard Mini assessment, PAT Mini item 113835 review, PAT Mini item 120623 review and U2 review; the exact same-condition result is 20 gallons plus internal style.

Test 30 gallons with the internal-filter choice.

The size-specific current FAN overlap provides a second internal example: at 20 gallons FAN 1 PLUS item 120620 falls within 15–25; at 30 gallons FAN 2 PLUS item 120621 falls within 25–35. Compare the actual 20-gallon internal query and 30-gallon internal query; the labels do not certify biological load, basket litres or electrical package.

Interaction: 30 US gallons plus a hang-on filter

At 30 gallons, both SmartClean 20–30 and 30–50 qualify at their inclusive shared endpoint; at 30.5 gallons, only the 30–50 SmartClean label remains within range. At 20 gallons the 10–20 and 20–30 sizes overlap, while at 20.5 the 10–20 ends and 20–30 remains. These are same-condition HOB numeric lookups, not waste-load conclusions. Compare the 10–20, 20–30 and 30–50 reviews; use 20 gallons, 20.5, 30 or 30.5 gallons with a hang-on filter and no below-tank position.

At 30 gallons, choosing a hang-on filter returns AC30, AC50, VERSAMAX 2 and VERSAMAX 3; neither C-Series nor BioStyle maximum-only labels complete an exact numeric fit because those models have no verified lower endpoint. The Fluval ranges and Aquael intervals include 30 gallons, but rim and maintenance fit still differ. C2 is labelled up to 30 gallons; BioStyle 30 and both Thermo 30 finishes also show 30-gallon ceilings, but none of those labels establishes a range starting point. Compare the AC30, AC50, VERSAMAX 2 and VERSAMAX 3 with the ceiling-only C2 and separate BioStyle 30, Thermo 30 Grey and Thermo 30 Navy after measuring the mounting surface. The VERSAMAX MINI has an upper label but no resolved lower endpoint and is not an exact-volume match.

At 20 US gallons with the current-only hang-on choice, AC20/30/50 and VERSAMAX 1/2/3 match their documented intervals; Aquael Versa Pro 20 item 132450 remains out because its “up to 20” label has no lower endpoint, and VERSAMAX MINI has no resolved minimum. Compare the AC20, VERSAMAX 1, 2 and 3 at 20 gallons with current HOB models. At 20.5 US gallons with the current-only hang-on choice, AC30/50 and VERSAMAX 1/2/3 match; AC20 ends at 20 gallons, Versa Pro 20 lacks a minimum and VERSAMAX MINI's lower limit is unresolved. Test the next 0.5-gallon step.

Test 30 gallons with the hang-on choice.

Interaction: hang-on filter, current generation only

All eight current Aqueon internal models—including SmartClean Shrimp SKU 100547610, both Betta packages and QuietFlow Internal AT10/AT40—stay in the result whether earlier models are excluded or included; the generation toggle changes other products, not these current identities. The separate Shrimp 5–15 row is distinct from Medium SKU 100549863 despite a reused UPC; each Betta package needs a separate air pump, and AT10/AT40 do not have complete tank-volume ranges. Compare the Shrimp item, Natural Plant 100542354, Volcano 100542356, AT10 and AT40. Use the same internal choice at earlier=no and earlier=yes.

The generation toggle leaves four current Aqueon SmartClean Internal variants in the candidate set: XS, Small and Medium, plus the separately catalogued Shrimp 15G SKU 100547610. The Shrimp item's 5–15-gallon range is distinct from Medium's 15–30 range despite a reused UPC; the generation choice does not resolve either the XS lower bound or that identity collision. Compare the XS, Small, Medium and Shrimp 15G assessments and the identical type/generation queries current internal only and internal with earlier generations.

For current-generation hang-on filters, all five PRO QuietFlow sizes remain current and enter the type-only HOB result, while their upper-only capacity labels still cannot establish a numeric match. Compare PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75; test hang-on with earlier=no.

With the current-only generation setting, all four SmartClean size variants stay in the hang-on result set because Aqueon currently lists them as distinct US models. The generation choice does not change their ranges or install type. Read the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 assessments, then test hang-on with earlier=no.

For a hang-on search, “No, compare current-generation models only” returns nineteen current AC/C/BioStyle, Versa Pro 20 and VERSAMAX assessments and excludes all five earlier AquaClear reviews. The current Versa Pro 20 and four VERSAMAX 1, 2, 3 and MINI reviews remain among these HOB reviews; the earlier toggle does not change their generation. This makes the generation choice materially change the pool, even though both groups hang on the aquarium. Check the exact item identity before choosing media; compare the AC50 and C3 with the OASE BioStyle 20, BioStyle 30 and Thermo 30 Grey as separate current lines. Test current-generation hang-on models.

For internal models, the generation toggle changes no candidates: both “No, current only” and “Yes, include earlier” return the same 40 current internal reviews. The Aqueon portion includes the two Betta packages, SmartClean Shrimp, three standard SmartClean Internal sizes and QuietFlow Internal AT10/AT40; other examples span the five FAN Plus sizes, Neo 300 item 133419, Neo Bio 1000 item 134626 and both distinct PAT Mini packages. The Betta packages’ separate air-pump requirement, the Shrimp filter’s mounting fit and the AT10/AT40 upper-only capacity limits remain separate checks. Aquael MULTIKANI 800 and the five earlier AquaClear products use other arrangements and stay outside this internal set. The matcher result with the current-only choice is internal plus earlier=no; the expanded-generation choice returns the same result at internal plus earlier=yes. See the Neo Bio 1000, Neo 300, PAT Mini 113835 and PAT Mini 120623 assessments for the distinction between current identity, package configuration and complete tank-volume evidence.

The same five current models appear in both generation settings for internal filters: FAN MIKRO PLUS 120618, FAN MINI PLUS 120619, FAN 1 PLUS 120620, FAN 2 PLUS 120621 and FAN 3 PLUS 120622. Compare the exact current-only internal result with the same arrangement with earlier models enabled; the five FAN items remain current in both.

Interaction: hang-on filter with earlier models included

With “Hang-on filter” and “Yes, include earlier-generation models,” 38 HOB assessments match: 28 current models plus five earlier AquaClear filters and five Aqueon QuietFlow LED PRO sizes. The current PRO QuietFlow 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 remain distinct NoDrip configurations; the older LED PRO 10, 20, 30, 50 and 75 use the flashing LED change-indicator package. Four size pairs reuse UPCs, so check the old SKU and package, not the barcode alone. The LED PROs have only upper gallon limits and are not numeric-volume matches. Test hang-on and earlier=yes together.

Including earlier generations adds no older SmartClean unit: the four Aqueon HOB size configurations remain current in the expanded hang-on result. Their exact gallon ranges, cartridge packages and water-change-spout limitations remain model-specific; the opt-in toggle adds distinct earlier AquaClear entries instead. Compare the 10–20, 20–30, 30–50 and 50–90 SmartClean reviews and test hang-on with earlier generations enabled.

Among the hang-on options, the current-only Fluval AC/C, OASE BioStyle and Aquael Versa Pro/VERSAMAX subset has nineteen entries; enabling earlier models adds ten HOB assessments—five AquaClear and five Aqueon LED PRO—for 29 in this subset. The full HOB result also includes five current Aqueon PRO QuietFlow and four current SmartClean models, bringing the complete earlier-inclusive answer to 38. The LED PROs are distinct flashing-indicator packages; four UPCs overlap current NoDrip items, so inspect the item number rather than assuming parts interchange. Compare the current AC50, earlier AquaClear 50 and Aqueon LED PRO 50, as well as the distinct Fluval C3 and OASE BioStyle Thermo 30 Navy. Test hang-on models across both generations.

The same five current FAN configurations stay in both internal results: MIKRO 120618, MINI 120619, 1 PLUS 120620, 2 PLUS 120621 and 3 PLUS 120622. Compare current only and earlier enabled without changing arrangement.

Interaction: external canister, current generation only

With “No, compare current-generation models only,” the external-canister search returns 34 current assessments: seven Fluval models, nine Aquael ULTRA FILTER/ULTRAMAX/HYPERMAX BT/MULTIKANI 1000 items, eight OASE BioMaster² configurations, four standard FiltoSmart models, separate heater-inclusive Thermo 100, 200 and 300, and three Aqueon QuietFlow sizes; earlier models are not included. The choice removes the earlier non-BT HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 and MULTIKANI 800 item 115089 from the otherwise-current external set. Review current MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128, current BT HYPERMAX item 132256 at its product page, and separate current ULTRAMAX BT item 133420; test external canisters with earlier=no.

Aquael's current ULTRA FILTER 1200 item 122606 also remains in this current-generation pool, separate from both HYPERMAX editions.

The three Aqueon additions are separate, model-specific records: read the QuietFlow Canister 200, 300 and 400 reviews for their differing supported tank-volume evidence, pump outputs and limits.

Interaction: external canister with earlier models included

With “Yes, include earlier-generation models,” the external-canister search returns 36 matches: the same 34 current filters plus archived Aquael HYPERMAX 4500 item 131381 and MULTIKANI 800 item 115089; the five earlier AquaClear units remain hang-on filters. Neither generation setting proves seller condition or part compatibility. Review earlier item 131381 beside current HYPERMAX BT item 132256 and current ULTRAMAX BT item 133420, and earlier MULTIKANI 800 item 115089 beside current MULTIKANI 1000 item 135128, then test the exact external/earlier-inclusive pair.

The current-only set also includes ULTRA FILTER 1200 item 122606; it remains in the earlier-inclusive set, distinct from the older HYPERMAX and MULTIKANI models.

All three Aqueon QuietFlow sizes also remain available when earlier models are included: compare the 200, 300 and 400 model reviews.

Interaction: external canister plus at least 4.0 L of media basket

With “External canister” and a 4.0-L minimum, the documented matches are the 407 and FX6; OASE's total filter-volume fields (4.4, 5.6, 6.8 and 8 L for BioMaster², and 0.5, 1.3, 4.2 and 6.4 L for standard FiltoSmart 60/100/200/300 plus Thermo 100/200/300) are not sourced basket amounts. Standard 200/300 and Thermo 200/300 list 1.5 L pre-filter values, and Thermo 100 lists 0.70 L; none is a basket figure. The 407 and FX6 have different cabinet footprints, plumbing and maintenance details, so volume is only one component. Review the 407 and FX6; compare OASE's clearly labelled filter-volume figures in the 250, 350, 600, Thermo 600, Thermo 850, FiltoSmart 60, 100, separate Thermo 100, Thermo 200 and Thermo 300, 200 and 300 assessments without treating them as basket capacity. Test the arrangement and basket minimum together.

All six Aquael ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500 and 2000 models each document a 1.9 L basket, so they fail a 4.0 L minimum; their whole-bucket or prefilter capacities are different fields. At the lower 1.9 L threshold their individual basket values qualify; see the 1.9 L external-canister finder and the 2.0 L comparison for the boundary.

The two HYPERMAX editions join the external filter type but each has four 3.6-L baskets, so neither meets a 4.0-L per-basket minimum. The current BT remains excluded at this threshold just as the archived edition does; the BT and earlier reviews distinguish those baskets from the 15.9-L system-volume figure.

The three Aqueon QuietFlow 200, 300 and 400 records list basket counts but no basket-litre quantity, so none is certified by a hard litre minimum; basket count is not converted into litres. Test the same external-style and minimum answer at the 4.0-L finder.

Interaction: hang-on filter plus at least 4.0 L of basket volume

Adding a 4.0-L basket minimum to “Hang-on filter” returns no match because none of the AC, C-Series or six BioStyle configurations has a sourced comparable litre basket value in this library. Unknown does not mean zero or prove that a physical chamber is too small; this comparison cannot verify the requested unit. OASE's BioStyle 1.1/1.9/2.7 L figures are total filter volume, not media-basket capacity, and cartridge/foam counts cannot be converted to litres. Check a maker dimension or manual before relaxing an essential capacity need. The empty result is a source-library evidence gap, not proof that no hang-on filter has that much media space. No HOB candidate in this reviewed library, including Aquael Versa Pro 20 item 132450, has a source-confirmed comparable media-basket litre amount that satisfies the minimum; missing basket data is an evidence gap, not zero capacity.

Test the hang-on and 4.0-L requirements together.

Interaction: internal filter plus a media-basket litre minimum

All four current Aqueon SmartClean Internal configurations, including the separate Shrimp 15G, fail an essential media-basket-litre minimum here: their sources describe cartridges or Bio-Holsters but publish no comparable basket capacity. A replaceable cartridge and its fiber/carbon description are not a measured litre value. Compare the Extra Small, Small, Medium and Shrimp 15G evidence; with the internal choice and 1.2-L threshold fixed, test the same media-minimum query. Unknown is not zero and does not imply poor filtration; it only fails this numeric field.

That same internal 1.2-L threshold also fails closed for all four EcoFlow sizes: the 0.26/0.39/0.52/0.65 L values are the models' total filter volume, while the manufacturer page identifies a media basket but gives no comparable basket-volume amount. Review the 60, 100, 150 and 200 product evidence without converting those fields.

Combining “Internal filter” with a 1.2-L media-basket minimum returns no match because U/Nano media packages and BioCompact/BioPlus/BioPlus Thermo total-filter-volume fields are not documented as comparable canister-basket amounts. That does not mean these units lack media; the U family and Nano use their own included foam, cartridge and biomedia descriptions. OASE labels BioCompact 25's 0.11 L, BioCompact 50's 0.19 L, and both standard and Thermo BioPlus 50/100/200's 0.3/0.5/0.7 L as filter volume, not basket volume. The library cannot verify an essential basket minimum from those different fields or from media-piece counts. Compare the U2 media notes, BioCompact 25, BioCompact 50, BioPlus 100 and heater-equipped Thermo 100 instead of converting counts or total filter volume into litres of basket capacity.

PAT Mini extra-sponge item 113835 and standard item 120623 are also excluded by every numeric basket minimum: both use sponge media, but Aquael publishes no PAT Mini sponge/basket litre figure. The same applies to Neo 300 item 133419: its holder accepts one sachet, but the maker gives no litre capacity for a comparable basket. The model-specific gallon label or cartridge count cannot substitute for that missing amount; unknown does not meet a hard media minimum. Check the same-condition 0.1-L and 0.2-L finder answers.

At a 0.1-L internal media minimum, six current internal matches include the four Aquael TURBO models, Turbo Mini Bio item 135802 and Neo Bio 1000 item 134626. Bio's 0.1-L container falls out at 0.2 L, but Neo's listed 0.2 L qualifies there; the standard Turbo Mini has no comparable basket figure at either threshold. The same internal/current-only comparison is visible at 0.1 L and 0.2 L.

At a 0.2-L internal/current-only minimum, five matches include Neo Bio 1000 item 134626 and TURBO 500. At 0.3 L, only Aquael TURBO FILTER models 1000, 1500 and 2000 remain; the Neo Bio 1000’s 0.2-L container and TURBO 500’s 0.25-L container are below the requested minimum. The Neo figure is Aquael's listed single media container, not a model-load rating, while the new threshold excludes its 0.2 L basket and the TURBO 500's 0.25 L container. Compare Neo Bio 1000, TURBO 500 and TURBO 1000; test the exact 0.2-L set against the 0.3-L step.

Test the internal-style and media-volume conditions.

Interaction: a 50-gallon range and at least 4.0 L of media basket

EcoFlow 200 is excluded from this simultaneous screen despite its 50-gallon maximum: that ceiling is upper-only and its 0.65-L total filter-volume value is not a documented media basket amount. The other three EcoFlow sizes likewise provide no basket field. See the 60, 100, 150 and 200 evidence alongside the model that meets both numeric requirements.

At 50 US gallons with a 4.0-L minimum, the only current match is the 407: it has a complete 50–100-gallon range and a 4.2-L basket. OASE's standard and Thermo BioMaster models, BioCompact sizes and both standard and Thermo BioPlus sizes publish upper-only tank labels and/or total filter-volume fields rather than the full tank interval and basket fields required here. Those measures cannot fill either missing criterion. Standard FiltoSmart 100 and heater-inclusive Thermo 100 each have a 30-gallon maximum and no documented lower endpoint or basket litres; Thermo 100's 1.3 L total and 0.70 L pre-filter values are not substitutes for the requested basket field. Standard FiltoSmart 200 and heater-inclusive Thermo 200 each have a 55-gallon maximum without a lower tank endpoint or basket value; Thermo 200's 4.2 L total and 1.5 L prefilter values are not substitutes either. The separate Thermo 300 has an 80-gallon ceiling but no lower limit or basket litres; its 6.4 L total volume is not a 4.0-L basket. This simultaneous screen is stricter than either number alone. The 407 review also describes installation and service tradeoffs. Compare the standard BioPlus 100 with Thermo 100 for the distinction between total filter volume and basket capacity. Test the 50-gallon and 4.0-L requirements together.

At 50 gallons ULTRA 900 and 1200 plus ULTRAMAX 1000 meet their tank intervals, but each individual basket is only 1.9 L, below the 4.0-L minimum. ULTRA 1400 and ULTRAMAX 1500/2000 begin above this tank volume. Both earlier HYPERMAX 4500 and current BT HYPERMAX 4500 document 3.6-L baskets, also below 4.0 L; current BT starts at 52.83 gallons, while the archived model's printed lower endpoint is 50. These Aquael candidates therefore do not alter the 407-only positive result.

Interaction: raising that 50-gallon minimum to 4.3 L

The four OASE EcoFlow pages do not repair this strict combination: their 15/26/40/50-gallon capacities are upper-only, and their 0.26/0.39/0.52/0.65-L total filter volumes do not establish basket litres. Compare the exact 60, 100, 150 and 200 entries before treating either threshold as met.

At 50 US gallons with a 4.3-L minimum, no reviewed model matches: the 407's 4.2-L basket is short, and neither FX6's upper-only range nor OASE's unverified lower bounds and non-basket volumes supply a substitute. At 50 gallons, the 407 is the sole current model with a complete printed interval, but its 4.2-L basket falls below 4.3 L. FX6 has a 5.9-L basket but no lower tank-volume bound; OASE BioMaster and BioMaster Thermo, BioCompact, standard BioPlus and BioPlus Thermo pages provide upper labels and total filter-volume fields rather than both a supported lower volume endpoint and basket capacity. Standard FiltoSmart 100 and heater-inclusive Thermo 100 each have only a 30-gallon ceiling and no lower endpoint; Thermo 100 also publishes 1.3 L total and 0.70 L pre-filter volume, not basket litres. Standard FiltoSmart 200 and heater-inclusive Thermo 200 have 55-gallon ceilings but no lower endpoint; the Thermo's 4.2-L total and 1.5-L prefilter values are not basket volume. The Thermo 300 likewise lacks a lower interval endpoint and basket field, so 80-gallon/300-litre ceilings and its 6.4-L total volume do not meet this 50-gallon/4.3-L request. Neither 100-size package nor any size-200 or size-300 package therefore satisfies this combination. This records a limitation in this source library, not proof no other filter can fit both needs. At 4.0 L, the 407 qualifies; standard BioPlus 100 and heater-equipped Thermo 100 show why filter volume is not the basket field. That small threshold change shows why both numeric conditions matter.

Test the 50-gallon and 4.3-L combination.

At 50 gallons, the six ULTRA FILTER/standard ULTRAMAX size rows plus ULTRAMAX BT item 133420 each have 1.9-L baskets and fail a 4.3-L minimum. Earlier HYPERMAX 4500 and current HYPERMAX BT each have 3.6-L baskets, also below that threshold; current HYPERMAX BT is additionally below its 52.83-gallon tank-volume lower boundary. Neither HYPERMAX model's 15.9-L overall figure is one basket. Review the ULTRAMAX BT, earlier HYPERMAX and current HYPERMAX BT assessments before substituting bucket volume for a tray.

Interaction: heavy-waste evidence plus a 100-gallon canister request

At 20 US gallons, an internal filter plus essential manufacturer high-waste evidence returns no match, including for SmartClean Internal XS, Small and Medium. Their source-backed gallon and GPH labels do not document a waste-load suitability rating. Read the three XS, Small and Medium reviews and test the same 20-gallon/internal/high-waste combination; this is a documentary gap, not a stocking judgment.

Combining a 100-US-gallon tank, an external canister and essential high-waste guidance returns no match; none of the 102 current buying-eligible filter models documents the required load evidence. Neither a Fluval range, an OASE upper-volume label, filter volume, heater wattage nor a flow figure establishes a high-waste rating. The Aqueon QuietFlow 200/300/400 reviews likewise record no explicit waste-load claim; their 200/300/400-GPH labels, 55–75/100–150-gallon matching intervals and basket counts do not certify high-waste suitability. ULTRAMAX BT's 2200-L/h pump-capacity figure and scheduled flow settings do not provide a livestock-load rating. The four current VERSAMAX models have product-specific range and pump labels, but no explicit high-waste suitability statement; neither those HOB plans nor the two HYPERMAX editions and both MULTIKANI generations have a load rating established in their reviewed evidence. Standard and Thermo BioPlus, EcoFlow, BioStyle and FiltoSmart configurations likewise lack that evidence; this is a bounded source-library evidence gap, not a universal claim that no aquarium filter can work.

Test the three requirements together.

At 20 US gallons, combining internal style with essential high-waste evidence also returns no match. Neo Bio 1000's 0.2-L basket and 1000-L/h output do not change its null high-waste field, and the internal alternatives are likewise unverified for a maker-rated waste load; this answer is a documentary limitation rather than a stocking judgment. Compare its exact review and test the 20-gallon/internal/high-waste combination.

All six Aquael ULTRA/ULTRAMAX reviews leave the high-waste field unknown; their printed tank intervals, 1.9 L individual baskets and maximum-flow labels do not document waste-load suitability. Current HYPERMAX 4500 BT and earlier HYPERMAX 4500 likewise have no high-waste evidence despite the larger baskets and pump labels. Compare the ULTRA 900, 1200, 1400, ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500 and 2000 source notes, and keep the empty interaction result framed as evidence missing from this finite library.

For OASE BioStyle identities and dimensions, see the US internal-filter catalogue, BioStyle family listing, exact BioStyle 20, BioStyle 30 Grey, BioStyle 50 Grey, Thermo 30 Grey, Thermo 30 Navy and Thermo 50 exact-model pages; use the BioStyle setup guide for rim, waterline and intake setup. The separate HeatUp 25 component and HeatUp 50 component records are cited only for their own heater claims, not to certify the Thermo bundle's heating suitability. For package/media quantities, consult OASE's BioStyle filter-media listing. These are manufacturer-published references, not independent testing.

Primary references include Fluval's 07 family and FX family tables/manuals, current AC comparison, C-Series family table and C-Series manual, U Series, Nano and earlier AquaClear records, plus OASE's US internal-filter catalogue, exact BioPlus 50, BioPlus 100 and BioPlus 200 pages and official BioPlus instruction manual, alongside exact BioCompact and BioMaster² family/manual sources. These are manufacturer-published references, not independent flow tests or a census of every model sold; individual reviews identify where specifications, package identities or US-edition details remain unknown.

Aqueon QuietFlow Internal AT10 and AT40: upper-only tank labels

Choosing “Internal filter” returns 40 current reviewed arrangements, including the Aqueon QuietFlow Internal AT10 (catalog item 100537259) and AT40 (item 100537270). The catalog’s up-to-10- and up-to-40-gallon labels have no lower endpoints, so neither model passes an exact numeric-volume screen; both still need room inside the aquarium. AT10 is 5.75 inches tall with one Small cartridge, while AT40 is 10 inches tall with two Large cartridges. Their family-manual flow ranges and wattages differ, but are not stocking ratings. Compare the AT10 review and AT40 review, then use the same internal-only finder choice.

With below-tank space available, 102 current matches remain; AT10 and AT40 are included because neither needs an external-canister cabinet. Available cabinet space does not prove numeric tank fit or clear the unit’s body inside the aquarium. Check the AT10’s 5.75-inch body and one Small cartridge or the AT40’s 10-inch body and two Large cartridges; the exact manual flow and wattage claims are not measured aquarium circulation. Review AT10 and AT40, then view the same available-space answer.

Without suitable below-tank space, 83 current matches remain, including internal AT10 and AT40 because their documented plans sit inside the aquarium. The models avoid a canister cabinet but still take in-tank room and need space for intake, return and service removal. The up-to-10 and up-to-40 catalog labels are not complete numeric intervals; no entered tank volume is certified from them. Compare AT10 and AT40, and use the same no-below-tank-space answer.

With “No, compare current-generation models only,” 102 current reviewed filters remain; this includes the current-reference catalog configurations AT10 and AT40. Both are internal filters, not the passive replacement cartridges listed immediately below them in Aqueon’s catalog. The AT10 takes one Small cartridge and AT40 takes two Large cartridges; verify the exact item/UPC rather than shopping by the family name alone. Read the AT10 assessment and AT40 assessment, and keep the current-only choice.

With “Yes, include earlier-generation models,” the matcher returns 114 reviewed configurations; current-reference AT10 and AT40 remain among them without becoming earlier models. The separate 2026 catalog rows establish the AT10/AT40 product identities, while their operational values come from the shared 2015 family manual. AT15 and AT30 are mentioned by that manual but are not silently given these current catalog SKUs or the AT10/AT40 values. Review AT10 and AT40, then use the exact earlier-inclusive choice.

The AT10 and AT40 carry current catalog ceilings of “up to 10” and “up to 40” US gallons, but neither has a published lower endpoint, so neither is certified by a numeric-volume answer—even at 10 or 40 gallons. A model number and maximum label do not create a two-sided range. At 10 gallons the AT10 does not match; at 40 gallons the AT40 does not match, because the strict numeric check requires the documented minimum as well as the maximum. This is an evidence boundary, not a statement that either model cannot physically operate in a tank of that size. See the AT10 capacity evidence and AT40 capacity evidence, and keep the generation answer fixed while comparing 10 gallons with 40 gallons.

Requiring manufacturer high-waste guidance returns no current match; AT10 and AT40 also have no published waste-load rating, and their gallon ceilings do not supply one. This finite library has no filter with verified manufacturer high-waste support, and an unknown rating does not prove that a model is unsuitable. Read the AT10 evidence and AT40 evidence; run the same high-waste option.

At 10 or 40 US gallons, combining “Internal filter” with essential manufacturer high-waste evidence still returns no match for AT10 or AT40. The exact-volume answer fails closed because each catalog label lacks a lower endpoint, and neither model has a documented load rating. Those are separate missing requirements, not an inference that either filter cannot operate in those aquariums. Compare the AT10 and AT40 evidence, then keep internal style and high-waste validation fixed at 10 gallons or 40 gallons.
