Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What aquarium range is actually printed for Aquael item 122605?
The Aquael US family table lists 15.8–52.8 US gallons and separately prints 60–200 L for ULTRA FILTER 900. Its marketing paragraph still names ULTRA 1000 for one recommendation; the exact model table and matching item 122605 identify this product as 900. The range is not a stocking-load guarantee.
Explore this need in the finder →How much documented media-basket volume does the 900 provide?
Aquael lists three trays of 1.9 L each. The separate 11 L bucket/filter capacity is not a basket measurement and should not be substituted for the 1.9 L per tray in a minimum-basket comparison.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the 900 establish high-waste suitability or a US electrical supply?
No. The checked English US listing and manual do not specify an explicit high-waste rating or a US line-voltage/frequency. Confirm the nameplate on the exact package, and do not treat the 1000 L/h maximum flow or capacity label as a load rating.
Explore this need in the finder →What should be planned for setup and maintenance?
Aquael's English manual requires the canister below aquarium water level, describes filling it with the pull-and-return priming lever, and uses the combined valves to throttle flow or isolate the hoses for service. Media is cleaned in drained aquarium water; the manual warns that some dirty water can spill when opening the cover.
Explore this need in the finder →Aquael's US comparison table identifies the ULTRA FILTER 900 as item 122605 and prints a 15.8–52.8 US gallon (60–200 L) aquarium range. It is the smallest of three current Ultra canister configurations on the page, not a 900-gallon-size shorthand. Its published maximum pump output is 1,000 L/h (264 US gal/h), and the table lists an 11 L total container, three 1.9 L baskets and a 10.6 × 11.4 × 14.6 inch body. Those are maker specifications, not measurements in a stocked aquarium or proof that a particular fish load is suitable.
Use the exact model row, not the page's older prose
The US family page contains a visible naming mismatch: a recommendation paragraph still refers to ULTRA 1000, 1500 and 2000, while the model images and comparison table name ULTRA 900, 1200 and 1400 and assign item 122605 to the 900. The English Aquael brochure independently names that three-size group and item numbers. This assessment follows the specific table and SKU, not the stale paragraph. Its 15.8–52.8 gallon row is an actual stated interval, unlike an upper-only capacity claim; even so, the interval does not tell you how much waste your stock will produce or what turnover a particular habitat needs.
Within this family the 900 has the shortest body and least basket count. The 1200 moves to a 42.3–79.2 gallon range, four trays and a 16.7-inch height; the 1400 lists 68.6–158.5 gallons, five trays and an 18.9-inch height. The intervals overlap: the overlap is not a product error, but it means the size number alone is not a choice rule. Cabinet height, substrate and livestock-specific flow needs still matter.
Separate basket volume from filter volume
Aquael lists three trays of 1.9 L each, so the comparable individual-basket figure is 1.9 L. The 11 L number is the larger bucket/filter capacity, not an 11 L basket and not a promise that all of that space is freely fillable media volume. The kit description names a 20-ppi standard sponge, polypropylene wool and BioCeramax 600 biological media. The English manual section shows the media order and says to rinse ceramic media to remove dust before start-up; it also says the media can be cleaned or replaced at least once every twelve months, with the first cleaning prompted by visible reduction in performance. That is the manufacturer's instruction, not an independently observed maintenance interval.
Plan for an under-waterline canister installation
This is not a hang-on filter: the manual says the canister must always be below aquarium water level and recommends an aquarium cabinet under the tank. Confirm actual cabinet height, floor support, hose route, access to lift the loaded trays and space to set the housing down during service. The listed body height is 14.6 inches; this is not the full service clearance. Its paired hoses are 16/22 mm. Aquael describes adjustable flow through the combined valve body, which also closes and releases both hoses for maintenance. Self-priming uses a lever that is pulled out and returned after the hoses are assembled and open; it is not evidence that the unit can be started dry or placed above the waterline.
The manual also cautions that some dirty water can escape when the cover is lifted. It directs users to isolate the hoses, disconnect power and handle the filter away from the aquarium before opening it. A plan that ignores cleanup and seal access can turn a convenient valve into a cramped service routine.
What the published flow and package do not establish
The 264 US gal/h figure is a listed maximum, not in-tank circulation after media, hose bends and outlet orientation. Aquael does not publish a high-waste stocking qualification in the checked US sources. Nor does the English US page identify the exact electrical voltage and frequency for item 122605. The wattage table reports 12.9 W, but verify the nameplate on the actual US package instead of assuming that a US gallon label proves a 120 V / 60 Hz motor.
Package details can also change by production date. Aquael's November 2025 sprinkler notice says the included shower/spray-bar count for Ultra 900/1200/1400 changed from five to three. The page's older photo is useful for recognizing the body and box label, but is not proof of the exact pieces in a current carton. Confirm the SKU, outlet kit and electrical label with the seller before purchase.
Bottom line
The 900 is the family member to inspect when the published 15.8–52.8 gallon range and three-basket arrangement are relevant, a below-waterline canister is practical, and an individual 1.9 L basket meets your media-space threshold. It is not automatically preferable to an internal or hang-on model, and neither its tank range nor maximum output establishes stocking adequacy. This is a source-based assessment; no hands-on use, noise test or performance measurement is claimed.

Compare supported tank-volume intervals, external versus internal arrangements, installation space and media needs. An upper-only capacity claim cannot establish a complete volume fit, and the finder cannot infer your fish load.
