Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What does the ULTRAMAX BT add beyond a regular ULTRAMAX size?
Aquael's US page describes Bluetooth app control of flow, four selectable flow modes, day/night scheduling and reduced flow during feeding. The BT is its own item 133420 configuration, not a phone-control feature that should be assigned to the separate ULTRAMAX 1000/1500/2000 records. Direct control is via Bluetooth; the page describes an added Wi-Fi Gateway BT for internet access.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the BT's 26.4-gallon lower label mean it matches a 26-gallon request?
No. Aquael pairs 100 L with a 26.4-US-gallon lower label. With the finder's 0.5-gallon step, 26.0 is below that endpoint while 26.5 is the first permitted input above it; neither the label nor the 2200-L/h pump figure rates fish load.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the ULTRAMAX BT be placed beside the aquarium if there is no below-tank position?
The exact English manual says the canister must always be below tank water level. The app modes do not change the installation rule; measure the intended cabinet and waterline arrangement before purchase.
Explore this need in the finder →How should I read the BT's basket and total-media figures?
Aquael lists five baskets of up to 1.9 L each and up to 10.1 L of media with the prefilter. The latter is a combined figure, not a 10.1-L single basket; a 1.9-L minimum is supported but a 2.0-L per-basket minimum is not.

The ULTRAMAX BT is a powered external canister with one documented configuration, item 133420. It should be assessed separately from Aquael's non-BT ULTRAMAX 1000, 1500 and 2000: the BT page describes app-set filter power and flow, four flow patterns, day/night scheduling and a feeding mode that reduces flow for a chosen period. This is a useful distinction for an aquarist who wants to vary operation by schedule, but it is not a demonstrated improvement in biological capacity or livestock handling. The controls are described as Bluetooth-based; Aquael's page presents its Wi-Fi Gateway BT as an added device for internet access, not a built-in Wi-Fi connection. Check phone compatibility and the gateway package rather than assuming remote control from the model suffix alone.
The page's capacity range is 100–750 L, paired on the US page with 26.4–198 US gallons. That is wider than the published range of the standard ULTRAMAX 2000, but Aquael's capacity labels are not a fish-load rating. The information sheet lists a 2200 L/h pump figure and variable power from 6.1 to 13.5 W; these are maker specifications, not measurements of the installed return flow, noise, or aquarium water quality. No reviewed manufacturer source here supplies a high-waste suitability statement or a stocking-density limit. A heavily stocked aquarium therefore needs husbandry planning beyond selecting the largest printed capacity number.
Basket and package details
Aquael lists five media baskets, each holding up to 1.9 L, and a separate lid prefilter up to 0.6 L. Its combined “with prefilter” media statement reaches 10.1 L; do not read that as one 10.1-L basket or as the whole bucket's liquid volume. The manufacturer's starter-kit list names coarse and finer sponge grades, cloth pads and one BioceraMax 600 ceramic medium. That gives a starting layout, while the baskets can be configured with other compatible media. Confirm the exact current retailer box, because Aquael also flags revised inlet/outlet hardware and sprinkler pieces from 2025; the older-looking package illustrations do not settle which production kit a seller has.
On routine care, the manual describes a lid-mounted prefilter that can be lifted for cleaning without removing the canister from its cabinet. It says to clean that sponge when flow visibly declines and gives roughly one-to-four-week guidance depending on aquarium conditions. If flow remains reduced after prefilter service, the manual directs attention to the main media and rotor; it says to rinse filter media in drained aquarium water, not tap water, and recommends periodic main-media service. These are manufacturer instructions, not an observed maintenance interval. There is still work behind the convenience: isolate the hoses, disconnect power before service, lift and handle a loaded canister, and allow for water and dirty media during opening.
Plan the installation before choosing it
The exact English manual is unequivocal that the canister must be below the aquarium water level. That makes a suitable below-tank location essential even though the app can lower pump output. The product information sheet lists a 27 × 29 × 51 cm body with valves; leave more room than the body dimensions for hose routing, bends, lid removal and lifting the basket stack. For flow adjustments, the manual says to use the OUT valve and leave the IN valve as open as possible; restricting the inlet can air-lock the filter and, in an extreme case, stop it. App adjustments do not make the maker's valve instructions optional.
The product page gives a variable electrical-power range but not a clear item-specific US mains voltage/frequency or adapter-input statement. The manual says to follow the voltage printed on the device. Before connection, inspect the nameplate and package for the exact item and supply, and confirm the seller has the appropriate US version. The same check should cover the 2025 plumbing parts, expected hose diameters, the Wi-Fi Gateway if internet access is essential, and current media contents. Do not infer a UPC or current retailer stock from Aquael's item number.
Who should compare it
This is most distinctive when scheduled flow control is a genuine requirement and a below-waterline canister space already exists. If app scheduling is not important, compare the standard ULTRAMAX 1000/1500/2000 on their own printed tank intervals, basket counts, body heights and hose sizes. The BT's five 1.9-L baskets resemble the 2000's basket count, but do not make the two products identical: their volume labels, control system and package details differ. Aquael's current HYPERMAX 4500 BT is another separate app-capable canister with its own body and installation limits; the shared BT label is not evidence that plumbing or capacity transfers between models.
These conclusions are a source-based assessment of Aquael's US-localized page, model information, manual and revision notices. No hands-on setup, flow measurement, sound test or livestock trial was conducted. If a scheduled-flow feature is not essential, if there is no below-waterline position, or if the exact electrical package cannot be verified, a different documented arrangement may be the more practical shortlist direction.

Start with your tank and installation constraints
Compare supported tank-volume intervals, external versus internal arrangements, installation space and media needs. An upper-only capacity claim cannot establish a complete volume fit, and the finder cannot infer your fish load.
