A useful fit for

A source-based reference for the 500 size’s internal mounting, adjustable output, integrated UV LED module and model-specific published range; it is not presently a US buying recommendation.

The main tradeoff

The exact US page says NOT AVAILABLE IN USA YET; its current US retail package and electrical edition are unknown. The page and linked manual disagree on wattage, and no high-waste rating or litre-rated basket volume is published.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does this model avoid the need for a below-aquarium canister position?

Yes as a documented arrangement: Aquael describes the UNIFILTER UV as an internal filter with an in-tank holder; the manual requires the body to sit below the waterline while the aeration regulator stays above it. It still takes up tank space and needs removal/service clearance. The exact US page says this model is not available in the USA yet, so this is not a current US buying match.

What volume label does Aquael publish for the 500 size, and is that a waste-load guarantee?

The exact US-localized page pairs 26–52 US gallons with 100–200 L and lists maximum flow 132 GPH / 500 L/h. These maker figures are not fish-count or high-waste guidance; the older generic manual disagrees on power and the 500 lower metric endpoint. The page says not available in the USA yet.

What is unusual about this filter’s UV LED and sponge service arrangement?

Aquael describes a UV LED module that can be switched independently of filtration and two separate sponge cartridges that can be cleaned in turns. Its manual warns against running the UV LEDs outside the filter housing or looking at them; it gives only a conditional service-life estimate. The page is not a US retail offer.

Aquael’s exact US-localized page identifies the UNIFILTER 500 UV POWER as Art. nr. 107402, but it also says “NOT AVAILABLE IN USA YET.” This is a model-reference assessment, not a current US purchase recommendation; the source does not establish a current US retail package, seller offer or electrical edition.

What the 500’s volume label does—and does not—say

The US page pairs a 26–52 US-gallon interval with 100–200 L, a 132 US-gallon-per-hour / 500 L/h maximum-flow figure, and 5 W. Those are maker-published values, not an independent circulation test, a stocking recommendation or a promise of adequate waste processing. The manual linked from this page is older multilingual material: its technical table instead shows a 150–200 L tank-volume line and 6 W for the 500. That is a material source disagreement, especially at the lower end. This assessment preserves the exact US page’s paired volume entry as the localized page claim while calling out the manual conflict; neither set of figures should be silently blended into a stronger capacity guarantee.

The page says output is adjustable, but it does not state a minimum flow. It also describes an outlet whose direction can be changed up to 90 degrees. These controls may help direct the discharge around an aquascape, yet the sources do not provide an installed circulation value, a measured noise level, or an animal-specific minimum-flow setting. Treat 500 L/h and 132 GPH as paired maximum labels only.

Integrated UV is a separate feature, not a treatment promise

This model combines an internal filter with Aquael’s UV LED module. The page says the UV LEDs can be switched independently of filtration and describes them as a way to limit suspended algae, protozoa and bacteria while improving water clarity. Those statements describe the manufacturer’s intended feature; they are not evidence of a tested disease treatment or a guarantee that a particular aquarium will clear. The manual specifically warns that UV radiation can harm a person’s eyes and skin: the unit must not be run outside its housing, and users should not stare at illuminated LEDs through the dome.

The manual gives a conditional service reference: after about 10,000 operating hours under its assumed normal aquarium conditions, UV LED output may have fallen by roughly 20 percent. It also says lifetime depends on conditions and leaves the replacement decision to the user. That is not a firm service interval or proof of the radiation level in any one unit. The page does not give a current US replacement-module offer.

Check submergence, dimensions and the power label

The manufacturer page lists the 500 at 2.3 × 3.9 × 8.7 inches, paired with 5.8 × 9.9 × 22.2 cm. The linked manual’s technical table gives a maximum immersion depth of 10 cm for the 500, compared with 25 cm for the larger 750 and 1000. The body must be under the water surface while the aeration regulator remains above it; changes in the waterline from evaporation therefore matter. The instructions also show a bracket and suction-cup holder, plus an air hose arrangement, so this is a unit mounted inside the aquarium—not a canister that uses a cabinet below the tank. The 1.5 m cord length is in the generic manual, not proof of a specific US box configuration.

The same manual lists 220–240 V / 50 Hz and describes conformity to Polish and EU safety standards. Aquael’s US page says this model is not yet available in the USA, so those manual specifications do not establish a North American package. Do not infer a compatible supply, plug or adapter from the wattage line. The page itself lists 5 W, while that manual lists 6 W; confirm the actual model plate and seller documentation if availability changes.

Two sponge cartridges shape the care routine

Aquael describes two separate sponge cartridges that can be removed and cleaned in turns, and recommends alternating their service to protect colonies of nitrifying bacteria. The manual says to rinse the cartridge in water removed from the aquarium, and to clean the impeller chamber and UV-module lenses as part of upkeep; it warns against detergents and solvents. This is a useful design detail for staggered maintenance, not evidence that bacteria will be preserved under every cleaning routine. The manual lists sponge insert part 00083 for the 500. A separate BIO chamber can be added according to the manual, but the exact US page does not confirm a current US accessory offer or an included 500-size biological-media package. No comparable litre-rated basket capacity or explicit high-waste suitability is published.

How it differs from the larger sizes

The 500 is the shortest listed body and the lowest-output model in the family: the 750 is labeled for 52–79 US gallons with 198 GPH / 750 L/h and 8 W on the US page, while the 1000 is labeled 66–92 gallons with 264 GPH / 1,000 L/h and 10.9 W. The 500 and 750 share the 52-gallon boundary; the 750 and 1000 overlap from 66 through 79 gallons. These are the page’s stated aquarium-size bands, not evidence that filtration need changes at a clean biological boundary. The size-specific assessments for the 750 and 1000 compare those differences without turning the table into a ranking.

Bottom line: the 500 is the smallest documented UNIFILTER UV size, with internal mounting, an adjustable outlet, two serviceable sponges and an integrated UV LED feature. Aquael marks the page unavailable in the USA, and the linked manual does not establish a US electrical configuration. It belongs in the model library for identification and comparison, but not in the current buying finder. Recheck the exact item, package, nameplate, waterline clearance and accessory support if the manufacturer later posts a dated US offer.

Start with your tank and installation constraints

Compare supported tank-volume intervals, external versus internal arrangements, installation space and media needs. An upper-only capacity claim cannot establish a complete volume fit, and the finder cannot infer your fish load.
