A useful fit for

A candidate for an aquarium in Aquael's printed 105–185 US-gallon interval when a suitable external-canister position below water level is available; it has five documented 1.9 L baskets.

The main tradeoff

This is the tallest ULTRAMAX size and it uses a different 19/25-mm hose pair. Its 530 GPH label is a maximum, not an installed-flow or biological-load guarantee, and the current US electrical supply and exact box revision must be checked.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

At 150 US gallons, does the ULTRAMAX 2000 have a documented volume and installation fit?

Aquael's current US table lists 105–185 gallons for item 123039, so 150 is within the printed interval. The manual still requires a suitable below-waterline canister location, and the interval does not certify a stocking or waste-load plan.

At 110 US gallons, should I compare ULTRAMAX 1500 and 2000?

Yes. The 1500's 65–120 and 2000's 105–185 gallon intervals both contain 110. Compare their four versus five 1.9 L baskets, 13.5 versus 16 L buckets, body heights and 16/22 versus 19/25-mm hoses, then verify the stand and package.

Does the 2000 satisfy a 2.0 L media-basket minimum because its bucket is 16 L?

No. Aquael lists each of its five baskets at 1.9 L; 16 L describes the whole bucket. The model therefore does not document a 2.0 L per-basket capacity, and exact package contents still need checking.

The Aquael ULTRAMAX 2000 is the largest configuration in the maker’s current US ULTRAMAX comparison. Aquael identifies the US table row as item 123039 and lists a 105–185 US-gallon interval (400–700 L as printed), 530 GPH / 2,000 L/h maximum efficiency, five individual baskets at 1.9 L each and a 16 L total bucket. The body is 10.6 × 11.4 × 20.1 inches, the page lists 19/25-mm hoses and a 180-cm maximum head. These are manufacturer figures, not an independent performance test or a measured flow through a particular aquarium installation.

More baskets, a taller body and wider hose connections

The 2000 differs materially from the smaller ULTRAMAX sizes. It has five baskets rather than the 1000’s three or the 1500’s four, and its listed whole bucket is 16 L compared with 11 and 13.5 L. Each tray is still 1.9 L; the 16 L bucket must not be interpreted as one large media basket. Aquael separately describes an approximately 0.6 L prefilter built into the lid. The 2000 is also the only size in the current US table with 19/25-mm hoses; the other two list 16/22 mm. Those hose dimensions and the taller 20.1-inch shell matter when planning a stand and route, not just when comparing gallon labels.

There is a meaningful interval overlap with the 1500 from 105 to 120 gallons. A 110-gallon aquarium lies inside both maker ranges, so choosing the 2000 is not the only range-based possibility in that interval. The 2000 offers one more 1.9 L basket and a larger vessel, but also occupies a taller space and uses a wider hose pair. The 1000’s listed range ends at 80 gallons. As always, an advertised tank interval is not a fish-count recommendation: the checked US sources do not provide a high-waste or stocking-density rating.

Below-waterline placement is not optional

Aquael’s English manual says the ULTRAMAX must always be below the aquarium water level. That is a hard installation condition for this external canister. A 20.1-inch body height may be a starting point for checking a cabinet, but the table does not specify working clearance for lifting five media trays, opening the lid, bending hoses or reaching the double valves. Measure the actual service path and leave room for a basin or tray during maintenance because the manual warns that some dirty water may spill when the filter is opened.

The maker describes a self-priming piston and double valves for isolating the hose circuit. The manual says the OUT valve regulates flow and the IN valve should remain as open as possible; narrowing the inlet can cause air-lock and may stop the filter. The current US page gives 19/25-mm hoses. Aquael’s 2025 change notice describes a newer telescopic inlet for the 2000 and new overflow pipes for the ULTRAMAX family. This is a real package-version consideration: check the exact product in hand and ensure the included intake/outlet pieces suit the tank and routing rather than relying on a generic older product photo.

Care and load claims need separate scrutiny

Aquael describes a coarse prefilter that can be removed from the lid and rinsed without pulling the canister from the cabinet. Its older English manual gives a condition-dependent one-to-four-week prefilter interval, and directs the user to check it when performance falls. It says to rinse the main media in aquarium water removed during service, not tap water; clean the main stack when performance remains visibly reduced after prefilter cleaning; and clean or replace media at least annually. Actual workload is not guaranteed by those directions and depends on the aquarium, debris and chosen media.

The page’s 530 GPH number does not say how much water the aquarium will circulate after head, hoses, media and setup, and it does not define a safe livestock load. An extra basket is one configuration feature, not a substitute for a species-specific waste estimate or professional husbandry guidance. If an essential requirement is a manufacturer high-waste statement, the current US page does not supply it for item 123039.

Current item and electrical-version conflict

The US model table reports 21.5 W but does not identify voltage or frequency. Elsewhere on the same page, its paragraph first says 21.5 W and then contains the string “121.5 W,” which appears inconsistent. The linked August 2023 revision sheet for older item 120666 lists 17 W after that revision, while the current US table names item 123039. The general manual also has a 220–240 V specification but does not establish the supply for this current US-coded article. These references must not be collapsed into a guessed 120 V / 60 Hz specification. Check the exact nameplate and retail package before connecting it.

The official image associated with the ULTRAMAX 2000 is an archived manufacturer image whose box identifies earlier item 120666, not current US item 123039. It identifies the named model but cannot confirm current wattage, electrical supply, inlet, sprinkler count or exact media pack. Aquael’s November 2025 notice states that the sprinkler set for ULTRAMAX models changed from five shorter pieces to three longer ones. The current US product page says selected media and accessories come with the filter, but the checked table does not enumerate the exact 123039 contents.

Where the 2000 is worth comparing

Consider it when the measured aquarium volume is within the manufacturer’s 105–185 US-gallon band, the location can meet the below-waterline requirement, and the stand can take the taller body plus 19/25-mm hose route. For 110 gallons, compare the 1500 directly: both ranges contain the volume, but their heights, bucket capacities and number of trays differ. For 150 gallons, the 2000 is the only one of these three ULTRAMAX intervals that contains the value, though that does not make it a universal biological-fit verdict.

Before ordering, verify ULTRAMAX 2000 and current US item 123039, inspect the nameplate for local supply, check which revision of the telescopic inlet/overflow pipe and sprinkler the box contains, and measure cabinet and service clearance. Do not read 16 L as basket capacity or use 530 GPH as an installed-flow guarantee. This assessment makes no claim of personal use, testing, ownership, current stock, price or customer experience.
